Jon Obi Mikel arrested after failing breath-test

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel was arrested after failing a breath test at 5.30am on the day of our FA Cup match against Ipswich according to The Sun newspaper. If true, this will put an unfortunate black mark against a player who has been arguably our best performer this season.

Mikel was pulled over by police “outside the clubs ground” in then early hours of Saturday morning but was released from a police cell on bail on Saturday afternoon.

The paper also reports that “Mikel had already been told by manager Luiz Felipe Big Phil Scolari he was being rested and would not play” although this is clearly invented seeing as Mikel was suspended for the match anyway.

Mikel will appear before West London magistrates on April 3. 

A Chelsea spokesman made a statement:  

“We are aware he was arrested and charged. We want to establish the facts before we comment.”

As you say Mikel was already suspended for the game - I like the bit "A Chelsea source."
