Michael Essien not far from Chelsea return

Michael Essien has begun non-contract training with the rest of the Chelsea squad as part of the final phase in his recovery to full fitness. Some sections of the media claim he may be ready for the Champions League tie against Juventus at the end of this month but even with Bison’s strength I would be surprised if that was the case – possibly the return leg in Turin on 10th March.
Essien, 26 suffered a serious cruciate knee ligament injury whilst playing for Ghana in September after playing only two premier league fixtures for Chelsea.
Even so, when fully recovered from injury Essien will take some time to get match fit although his natural fitness may help him produce decent performances sooner than expected.
There’s no doubt that we’ve missed his drive and power and it remains to be seen how new temporary manager Hiddink will use the Ghanaian during the final months of the season.
