Stoke City Res 3-2 Chelsea Reserves

Due to circumtances beyond my control I was unable to watch the reserves in action last night and provide LIVE updates on the message board, but by all accounts Stoke were 'lucky' in securing victory over the Blues. Due to Champions League commitments this evening, there was no Miroslav Stoch nor Franco Di Santo.
Up stepped 'big' Frank Nouble for his first reserve appearance of the season - he didn't score.
Ricardo Quaresma, who is not registered for tonight's Juve encounter, played the whole 90 minutes and youngster Adam Phillip made his first reserve start of the season.
Stoke fielded an extremely strong side with players such as Simonsen, Griffin, Sonko, Cort, Lawrence, Tonge, DIckinson and Kitson but it was Chelsea who took the lead after twelve minutes when Mellis tapped home from close range, after Simonsen spilled an Aanholt shot.
Chelsea could have been further ahead by half-time but chances were missed and Stoke punished those misses by equalising before the break. Stoke were awarded a free-kick inside the area after Heimann was penalised for holding on to the ball and Lawrence crashed home the free-kick.
Within minutes of the restart, Stoke were awarded a penalty when Tom Taiwo was harshly judged to have handled inside the area. Despite Chelsea protests, Lawrence scored his second goal of the night from the spot.
Chelsea continued to battle and their reward came four minutes after Stoke took the lead when Lee Sawyer smashed home an unstoppable shot from twenty-five yards.
Poor Tom Taiwo didn't have a good night. For Stoke's winner he deflected a cleareance into the path of Tonge who smashed another unstoppable shot from twenty-five yards to secure the points for the men from The Potteries.

Sounds like the boys did well against a very experienced side though.
