Hiddink offered new deal to stay at the Bridge

Temporary Chelsea manager Guus Hiddink revealed yesterday that club suits have offered him a new contract to stay on at Chelsea. Hiddink has often made it clear that he will commit to his current contract with the Russian national side but Chelsea have made an effort to keep Hiddink on by offering him a consultancy role.

Consultancy?  Well presumably this would be in the field of transfers which does encroach on Frank Arnesen´s territory as Sporting Director but I would imagine the move has a lot more to do with a “slowly slowly catchy monkey” approach or at least a way of keeping Hiddink close should there be any problem with the new manager or Russia don’t qualify for the World Cup leaving the Dutchman unexpectedly free.

'There had to be a contract or my work in Chelsea would be impossible from a legal point of view. Yes, there is such a contract. It expires on May 31,' said Hiddink.

'They offered me to continue working for them after that date as a consultant.'I'll need to have a look how the situation is going to develop. May be I can be useful for Chelsea in that role.

''For any other offer I would say no. Politely but firmly.'

I find the move encouraging should Hiddink´s new remit not encroach or intimidate the new manager although there is the possibility that this proposed set-up could already be with his agreement – even that Hiddink has recommended the new man to take the helm at Stamford Bridge.
