Contract extension for Ballack – Drogba wants four year deal

Michael Ballack has been handed a one-year extension to his current contract. One media source (Matt Hughes of The Times) described the offer by Chelsea FC as “defiant” in light of the recent “ugly scenes that marred Chelsea’s Champions League exit” (almost as if the club are sticking two fingers up at the media and in some way are spiting them!).

.

Ballack has agreed terms with a continuation of his £121,000 a week deal which will see him remain at the Bridge until June 2010, however, the two-year deal he originally requested has been turned down on the grounds that the club want to wait until the new manager is appointed before committing themselves to any long-term deals for their older players.

The German captain now awaits to see what punishment UEFA will dish out after events at Stamford Bridge that saw our atrocious and blatantly referee inspired exit from the Champions League semi-final to UEFA favourites Barcelona.

Hughes goes on to claim that Didier Drogba, 31, wants a four-year deal and that the club are holding off on this.  As far as I am aware, he wanted two years but if the Times claim is true, no doubt this is a bargaining ploy for three years.

Drogba will not receive any internal punishment for his role in the emotional protests at referee Ovrebo in the week despite media claims that Abramovich wanted to throw the book at him (no surprises there).

Now?

Well, put it this way, I don´t have a problem with another year.

Or are you referring to him ducking the Iniesta shot?

I will tell you what I think of Ballack. He was strutting about like he owned the place in his first year, he scored a couple of goals. His second year he got alot better and scored more goals, but this season he has gone backwards.

My advice to Chelsea is don't waste your money and give it to someone more deserving and it wasn't till the other day that I realised it was Ballack who ducked out of the way of Iniesta's shot - for me thats the actions of a coward. Get rid I say.

I´d say make this Ballacks last year - he is a very useful player but save him for certain matches - keep him fit - that way it gives a bit more space for a youngster/new signing.

I´d give Drogba 2 more seasons on his contract.
