UEFA ORDER Ovrebo to re-write his referee’s report

Tom Henning Ovrebo, the referee at the Chelsea v Barcelona champion’s league semi-final farce on Wednesday night, has been ordered to RE-WRITE his referees report on the match. There were scenes of emotion and indignation at the end of the match, resulting in Drogba swearing into a TV camera – no doubt UEFA want as big a stick as possible to bludgeon us with.
The Norwegian has been given an extra 72 hours to modify and expand upon his official report which he faxed from Oslo to UEFA offices from his hotel in London after the match.
Drogba and Ballack are expected to receive heavy punishment.
UEFA explanation
“Regarding the report from UEFA’s referee observer - this will never be made public. But that report will of course play a major part in deciding Tom Henning Ovrebo’s future,” said a UEFA spokesman.
“When it comes to the reports that detail what happened after the match we need the coming week to analyse those.
“At the same time we will continue to collect information about what really happened - that’s information from witnesses and from video cameras.”
It would be interesting to know how often – if ever – UEFA have asked a referee to change a report.
Ovrebo and UEFA confusion
Ovrebo has wanted to speak to the media about the match but claimed that UEFA had instructed him not to give interviews, then quite strangely, UEFA denied they had gagged Ovrebo and claimed that Ovrebo himself had chosen not to address the press. When Ovrebo was told about UEFA´s version, the referee said that there must have been a mix up and that he would wait for new orders allowing him to address the media.
Frisk referee’s report history
What is particularly galling is that the referee’s report after the Frisk affair when Mourinho accused Rijkaard of trying to speak to the Swedish referee at half-time was not admitted to Mourinho´s hearing.
Frisk had explained in his report that Rijkaard had tried to speak to him THREE TIMES at half-time. Rijkaard himself explained to the press that he had tried to speak to him but that it was only to welcome him to the Nou Camp as he did not have an opportunity to do so before the game.
Sideshow serves UEFA well from the real issue
The reaction to one of the most scandalous robberies ever seen in the history of football has largely been unsympathetic to Chelsea FC despite a travesty of a match which saw four penalty appeals refused pegging the score back to a goal’s difference.
The generally Chelsea hating public and most sections of the media with their anti-Chelsea agenda have been baying for Drogba´s and Ballack´s blood – and it looks like UEFA are going to do all they can to give it them.
