Hiddink: “UEFA are happy over no all-English final”

As Guus Hiddink´s current tenure at Stamford Bridge draws to a close the Dutchman has begun to speak more freely on his views with regard to the scandalous Champions League semi-final match against Barcelona at Stamford Bridge.
Up until now he has expressed anger and frustration over the manner of the outcome of that match on that “Black Wednesday” and tempered this with understanding on the players reaction on the injustice carried out by referee Ovrebo.
"I think UEFA, although they will not say it, were very happy there was not an all-English final for the second consecutive time,” said Hiddink.
"I feel the anger and the injustice. This was not an inexperienced referee. I think he had a total blackout that evening. It was not his first big game but it was amazing how he did not react."

What happened was an injustice, but have you thought that both UEFA and FIFA hold a grudge against Guus??
The truth is this not even the biggest miscarrage of justice againt a Hiddink side...I point to the 2006 World Cup 2nd Round.
Italy have 10 men and Australia have them rattled but can't get the winning goal. Sure enough Fabio Grosso dives over Lucas Neill. The Azzuri (I really dislike Blue) get the Pen and the win.
Both Australia and Chelsea are guilty of not finding the killer goal in open play because the truth is the is no way that Australia or Chelsea would get a penalty or a fair go from the ref.
Shame really but that is just the way it is......Fifa/UEFA play favourites English sides and Non-European upstarts like Australia will never get the rub of the green or even a 50/50 decision.

The cynic in me asks the question....
if Chelsea were playing say Werder Bremen or PSV (top-level teams but not with the "Pedigree" of a Barca/A.C. Milan/Real Madrid etc.) would they have got a more favourable decision?
Same as I often ask myself would the penalty still have been given if Australia was playing the Ukraine not Italy?
As a gunners fan I know I don't often agree with you but I'll let you draw your own conclusions....

I think that most referees are fully aware of UEFA´s wishes and tend to act in favour of the more popular or well known clubs - so yes, there may well be a tendency for a ref to give us more decisions in a match against Werder Bremen. However, what happened at Stamford Bridge against Barcelona was just SO OVER THE TOP - the fact that Ovrebo was doing his utmost to ensure that Barcelona had every chance of going through was obvious.

The final tonight is what they wanted from the start.
The two best club sides in the world playing for the biggest prize in club football.I wont be watching it through principle and i don't give a toss who wins it but what i am hoping for is how either team reacts to some critical decisions in the game,uefa will favour Barca and the ref will favour Barca for sure because they don't want a British club winning it for a second season in succession,lets see how the mancs will handle penalty appeals turned down at critical stages of the game ,how will Fergie react,how will the like`s of Rooney,Ferdinand,Ronaldo to name a few react if they go out,lets wait and see,i cant wait.

I watched it, simply to see if Henry got the Pot he has been waiting for...he did.
I personally think the 2006 final was a better footballing showcase 2 teams (one of them with 10 men) attacking at every oppotunity and at least looking like scoring.
