Maldini meets Ancelotti to discuss “Team Manager” position

The “Corriere della Sera” claimed it was on, “The Times” said it was off and now “La Gazzetta dello Sport” report that it could, after all, be on again (if it was ever off in the first place!); Paolo Maldini has met Carlo Ancelotti to discuss the position of “Team Manager”.
The idea is that Maldini, 41, will act as a link between the squad and management – consisting off Ancelotti, the coaching staff and possibly even the Football Board.
The report makes various satirical references to Chelsea’s “park bench” – a nod to Maldini earlier claiming that the only bench that Milan’s new manager, Leonardo had ever sat on was a park bench.

Even though Maldini will now have no official position at Milan (something which he perceives as a lack of respect), the Italian newspaper warns of a “vacuum corridor” from Milan to London developing if the enquiries or interest re Milan personnel and players from Chelsea are not watched very carefully.
Maldini´s main concern is the upheaval of his family from Milan to London and this is probably the “only” hurdle which Ancelotti has to overcome. Maldini was strongly considering taking a year sabbatical from football but Ancelotti´s call has the cogs in Maldini´s head turning.
The meetings with Ancelotti and an un-named Chelsea suit were all conducted in English – a language in which Maldini is fluent - although it is not clear if the meetings took place in Miami - where the ex-Milan player is taking his holidays - or in London during a stop-over flight en route.
The future of Ray Wilkins is probably not in doubt for two reasons; Wilkins responsibilities will not entirely clash with those of Maldini and secondly, Kenyon is anxious to maintain a continuum of Chelsea family at the club.
Maldini at Chelsea? I like the idea. Let´s hope it happens.
