Terry confirms commitment to Chelsea in new statement

Much to the disappointment of the media, oppo fans and of course, Man City, John Terry has yet again confirmed his commitment to Chelsea Football Club. Chelsea did say that there would be no further comment in their statement re Terry after City’s most recent bid – but with so much speculation, Terry has decided to speak out.

The statement reads:

'There has been a lot of speculation recently about my future and I want to clear this up once and for all. I am totally committed to Chelsea and always have been. Chelsea have also made it clear to me consistently that there was never any intention to accept any kind of offer.

'When you are linked with any club, or with a manager who I have huge respect for, it will always make headlines but me leaving Chelsea was never a possibility.

'I know there has been comment that I should have made a statement earlier. However, throughout this period there have been numerous discussions between myself, the owner and the Chelsea Board and we all agreed that the timing of any statement would suit everyone involved in those talks, not any outside influences or agendas.

'What is clear to me following those discussions is that Chelsea's ambition remains as high as ever. This has been further proved by the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti. I am certain that he will take this club on to the next level.

'Another important factor was knowing that Chelsea would be securing key current players for the long term. The strengthening of the squad around this core is crucial to pushing us onto greater success.

'I am as committed as ever to helping drive Chelsea forward and I will be proud to lead the team for as long as I can.'

Terry during a press conference at the Luzhniki Stadium, Moscow, Russia.

What isn’t revealed of course, is if Terry will receive a new improved contract because of the City pressure or purely a contract extension.

Personally, I have no problem with an extension only although I would find it disappointing if Terry’s agent has exploited the situation so that his client squeezes more money out of the club.

For the contract to be revised because more players join and are put on higher salaries, or because his contract has 18 months left on it and is renegotiated is fine in my book – but not because of another club coming in for him.

Some Chelsea fans have given our captain the benefit of the doubt throughout this saga whilst others had sadly delivered a premature guilty verdict – let’s hope Terry doesn’t let the former group down.

I am just glad its all over. I had no doubt that JT would stay, what I dont understand is why Chelsea let matters like these drag on and on and on - like they always do.

The club's media presentation is really a whole load of c**p and it has been ever since Bates was at the club.

I bet JT has been laughing at all the speculation the more he kept quiet the more the tabloids were making fools of themselves.

Two words to say to Man Citeh and adebayor and that is,UP YOURS.

Try your luck with Rio or Kolo and see how you get on.

Oh yes you can see Fergie selling Rio to them after the arrogant poster they put up of Tevez,Wank*rs.

We're bumming off fergie now are we? nice! Glad that's over - at long last. I take it it took this long for his pay increase to be finalsed? If this man is 'Mr Chelsea' , what a slippery slope our beloved sport is on. Toodle pip!
