With Ray Wilkins and Anco watching closely, the reserves were soundly beaten by last season's champions Aston Villa at Griffin Park last night, 4-0. New reserves coach Steve Holland's first game in charge since his appointment last Thursday ended in major disappointment. Chelsea will have to pick themselves up for when they travel to Portsmouth next Tuesday night.
Chelsea fielded a strong side considering the amount of players currently out on loan and the surprise sale of Frank Nouble to West Ham.
Turnbull in goal, Sturridge up front, Sam Hutchinson at the back and Chelsea also welcomed back long term injury victims - Gael Kakuta, Michael Woods and Carl Magnay.
Villa scored twice in each half. Andreas Weimann scored after eight minutes and then on twenty-five minutes Ciaran Clark increased Villa's lead after a fumble by Turnbull.
Villa's third was an own goal scored by Magnay who headed past Turnbull from a Villa corner and Albrighton scored Villa's fourth with twenty minutes left.
Villa still pressed forward and hit the post late in the game. After their 1st team's 3-1 victory at Anfield on Monday night, Villa have had a good 24 hours.
Chelsea's best moment of the game came when Sturridge hit the bar with a free-kick from twenty-five yards.

One report said Turnball was responsible for three blunders - sounds like an exaggeration...
"It is born out of hypocrisy and fundamental insecurity. There have been two kids on the block for the past 12 years. Suddenly, there is a third and that one is threatening to be more successful than the others and they don’t like it." P Kenyon.
Disappointing result but Villa were outstanding and will probably win the title again.
One consolation is that our reserve side are full of youth players and that the majority are out on loan.
