Chelsea striker injury situation causes concern

The media claim that Nicolas Anelka will miss the following two matches against Birmingham and Fulham due to a continuing calf injury. The Frenchman missed the West Ham game at Upton Park and it was hoped that he would be at least fit for the Fulham game on the 28th but the prognosis looks grim and with Drogba and Kalou departing for the ACN the day before the cupboard looks bare.
Anelka is expected to return in time for the FA Cup tie against Watford on January 3 which would mean Sturridge and Borini would have to step-in for the Fulham match – unless Drogba can get permission from his country to arrive for preparations 24 hours later. It also now remains to be seen if Ancelotti goes for a temporary combination of Drogba and Sturridge for the previous Birmingham match.
With Ancelotti claiming that he would not make big signings in January unless he was hit by injuries recent developments could underline the importance of signing a top striker in January – or should we, for once, put some confidence in our youngsters to cover and leave the big signings until the summer? Possibly – assuming of course we do not receive a transfer ban from FIFA!
Sergio Aguero from Atletico Madrid, 32-year-old Luca Toni and Wolfsburg's 23-year-old Edin Dzeko are supposedly in the frame.
