Sturridge fee set at £3.5m to £6.5m by tribunal

The fee for Daniel Sturridge has finally been set by a Premier League tribunal at an initial fee of £3.5m rising up to around £6.5m depending on performance factors. Chelsea had offered £3m whilst Man City had wanted £9m for the 20 year-old.
Sturridge was signed last summer after his contract at City had expired and despite the Manchester club offering a higher salary than what was being tabled at Stamford Bridge.The initial £3.5m will be increased depending upon appearances for Chelsea and England. Should Sturridge earn a full cap for England then a further £1m will be added to the initial fee, further, should the player be sold on, then a 15 per cent sell-on fee would also be due to City.
"We are content with the outcome of today's tribunal regarding Daniel Sturridge's transfer from Manchester City,” said a Chelsea spokesman.
"The initial fee is very close to what we first offered.
"Any subsequent payments are directly linked to the success of the player and that is satisfactory to us."
After beginning his career at Aston Villa, Sturridge moved to Man City from Coventry in 2002 to whom City were also ordered to pay compensation in stepped performance payments.
