Spurs Away Match Preview – A Must Win to Preserve Cushion

A last gasp Paul Scholes Man Utd winner just minutes ago against Man City means that we have a must win situation at White Hart Lane if we want to preserve our 4 point lead during the final furlong of the Premier League.

We used to call it 3 Point Lane but in recent seasons we have experienced two losses there and with Spurs fresh off the back of their midweek win against the Woolwich Gypsies, they will be in buoyant mood. Nevertheless, they will be missing top scorer Defoe and the influential Wilson Palacios through suspension.
To round up the rest of the queue at the Spurs treatment room we have Kranjcar out for the rest of the season, Rose (doubtful) Jenas, Woodgate and Lennon and our old friend Cuducini (with broken wrists).
The excellent news for us is that Ashley Cole has recovered and will be on the bench and we may well see Ivanovic feature.
Our injury list is the same as it has been for some time now; Bosingwa, Essien and Carvalho.
Both Malouda and Joe Cole were rested for the midweek match against Bolton so we can expect the controversial diamond to be discarded for the moment and it will be interesting to see what Ancelotti does about the Drogba/Anelka conundrum.
The key to grabbing back the league title after a 3 season gap is to maintain pace with the performance of Man Utd – so a win today would even give us the luxury of absorbing a loss at Anfield during the penultimate game of the season.
Despite the high morale of the Spurs squad, we can win this one and the freshness of Malouda and Cole combined with the loss of Defoe and Palacios should be enough to swing the balance back in our favour.
