No Major Signings As I Expected

With the transfer window firmly shut until January 2011 and with the greatest respect to Yossi Benayoun and to Ramires, Chelsea have made NO major signings for perhaps the first time since Mr A took control all those years ago. Players have come and gone, managers have done so too and so far this year Chelsea have released more players than they have signed.

Belletti, Ballack, Deco, Stoch etc etc and more recently Franco Di Santo, who, signed on a deadline day permanent deal to take him to Wigan for an undisclosed fee.

We may not have signed MAJOR players, but the return of Michael Essien is like a MAJOR signing and today 18 year Dutch international Jeffrey Bruma has signed a new four year deal which will keep him at Chelsea until 2014.

Bruma said, "I am very happy to stay here. I have been working to improve all the time I have been here and a next step is getting your next contract, and now it is time to improve again."

Bruma has recently undergone surgery and is recovering well and could be ready to feature in the up and coming Carling Cup tie against Newcastle at The Bridge on Wednesday 22nd September.

He said, "The recovery is going pretty well and I have no pain where I had it before. Now it is more muscle stiffness all over the body because your body has to get used to everything again.

"I don't expect to be out much longer because it is a new kind of surgery. I had one hernia operation in June on the left side and now I have had the right done so I can put it behind me and move on.

"As soon as I am back with the group training I have to show that I am completely fit and show the manager I can do it again."

Chelsea may have won three out of three so far, scoring 14 goals and conceding none, it will be interesting to see how our squad copes with the demands of three competitions - Premiership, Carling Cup and Corrupt Cup - before the transfer window opens again in January.
