Ian Holloway. Already a football legend in the making. A man who will be remembered for wearing his heart on his sleeve, his passion for the game and entertaining into the bargain. Sets his side out to attack no matter the opposition. None of this “On our knees with respect” rubbish. Football needs people like him but did he lose it a bit yesterday? Was his rant on Rooney situation a bit one-eyed to say the least?

I’m not completely with him there.
Blossomed at Man Utd
"For me Manchester United have helped Wayne Rooney's career massively on and off the field. The manager, the club itself has invested in him. They bought him for massive amounts of money as a young man and they're helping him blossom into the player that he is. He's one of the best centre-forwards in the world.
Very true. But don’t forget who they prised him away from. Everton were his boyhood club and developed him.
“If my car went over a certain age and I bought it off a garage I wouldn’t expect the garage to be able to come to take it off my drive for nothing because I own it. I have proof of ownership. And if he sees his contract out he's going to be able to walk out of there for nothing. That's the people at the very top of the game's fault.
Rules

So once a club buys a player they should be able to own him forever?! He’s a piece of meat, chattel?
What if a player doesn’t want to keep playing for that club and his contract is up? What if he’s not happy?

Fair point. But I imagine the problem is not running out on to the pitch but the media hysteria and fans reaction which makes it distracting for the club in question.
They’re wrong!
“What are we actually saying as human beings?” Is that right? Do you want to sign a person like that? Do you want to play for a club who says that to you? How do we know it hasn't happened? The game is spoiling that. The game is wrong. The people in charge of the game are wrong. And I’m not calling them names I’m just telling them they’re wrong. They are so wrong this is frightening.

"They say it's not fair on the player. Rubbish. The player has had his wages every week. Guaranteed come rain or shine whether he’s injured or not. They bought him, they worked with him, he belongs to them. You know. You buy a house, you own the deeds it’s paid for if you’re lucky enough to do that it’s yours. What if its 24 years you’ve had it for and it can just toddle off and do what it likes! It’s not right is it?

Again, fair point on the wages issue but again, the player isn’t something you own forever – he’s something you rent for a period of time.
“We had it right. Ask us how we were doing it. And that’s what you should have copies with the Bosman rule. Mr Bosman was held back his contract run out they’ve offered him half the money yet they still asked more money than a club was going to pay for it. In our country he would have walked out for nothing. That’s what they should have copied. Some complete….person…who isn’t in the real world, in our realm, said if you’re 24 you can do what you like. Who is this person?! How wrong is that? Sort your life out.

Poor old Fergie

Fair enough, but how many players have Ferguson and every other manager discarded despite the players wishes? How many players have invested their emotions, moved and settled, kids in school etc only to be told without warning “Sorry! We’re getting rid of you!” “We’re selling you to some Turkish club.”
It does, it has and it will do, work both ways Mr Holloway.

As Rooney signed a five year contract this afternoon, I suspect he his right.
Rooney threw his toys out of the pram, put SAF in a difficult position and OBVIOUSLY got what he wanted more money and the 'double' glazing family to get their cheque books out.
