Chelsea reaching £24M Sanchez Agreement with Udinese?

January 22 2011

It all seems to be going off this morning!  First we have “A Bola” claiming that the Benfica President is in London today to tie up the transfer of Centre-back David Luiz and now we have “Gazzetta Dello Sport” claiming we are reaching an agreement for Udinese forward Alexis Sanchez.

According to the Italian paper, Inter were very confident of signing “El Niño Maravilla” (The Wonder Boy) only to discover that Chelsea have reached an agreement in principle (a verbal agreement I suppose) with Udinese suits to sign the player.  A fee of around €28M (just under £24M) will apparently be confirmed today.

Should both these signings pan out (and we shouldn’t shoot our bolts too soon) the loss of Kalou in the Luiz deal would be made up with forward Sanchez and this would bring our transfer spending to around £45M during this January.

Sanchez is a small but very versatile forward player right up Ancelotti’s alley! He can play as a centre-forward, attacking midfielder or a right winger.  The 22 year-old Chilean has boundless energy, excellent pace and great technique and has so far netted 5 goals in 19 appearances in Serie A.

Not getting over excited at this stage..... BUT... I would be so pleased (understatement of the year) if we could get one over on Unted with this guy because he is one of Fergie's top of the list wanted men - for obvious reasons , Sanchez is a great player that would help us a lot over the coming years. We just need a Drogba / Anelka replacement

I'd be surprised if we got BOTH Luiz and Sanchez - you never know though...

It appears that way (for the moment). Money as usual is the obstacle:

Udinese want £25 million or more for the Chile international, but Chelsea are unwilling to pay such an inflated fee.

Udinese chairman Gianpaolo Pozzo said: "With Chelsea we talked £25m. I want this figure, if not more.

"Yes, there was also interest from Inter Milan, which we decided to stop."

It is thought that Chelsea might be willing to go as high as £22m.
