If Ancelotti's recent words to 'give the players a kick up the backside' haven't had the desired effect, then the arrivals of Fernando Torres and David Luiz, seems to have done the trick. Where Chelsea were awful against Sunderland at The Bridge in November, last night at the Stadium of Light, Chelsea were brilliant and this despite conceding a very early goal.
Phil Bardsley gave the hosts the lead after Chelsea backed off inviting him to shoot, which he did low into Cech's bottom left hand corner, Super Frank replied from the penalty spot, Kalou put Chelsea in front after a one-on-one with Gordon then Kieran Richardson equaliser from a free-kick, a shot that left Cech motionless (aka Aston Villa).
Sunderland's 'keeper Gordon kept Sunderland in the game with some fine saves and Chelsea hit the woodwork before The REAL England Captain, JT, gave Chelsea a deserved lead and right at the end of the match, Anelka scored Chelsea's fourth.
Ancelotti, naturally delighted with the result and the performance, said "Everyone knows the ability of these players and everyone is happy because they know these new players can improve this squad.
"We have won the last two away League games (scoring EIGHT..... Ed) and we will do our best until the end. If it will be enough I don't know.
"It doesn't depend on us. It will be difficult to close the gap on Man Utd if they keep winning."
Steve Bruce still thinks that Man Utd will win the title but cannot wait for the Drogba/Torres partnership to start and mature - a partnership that he thinks will be mouthwatering.
He said, "Ten points ahead at this stage of the season makes it highly debatable for Chelsea to win it.
"But what we know is they are playing again like the Chelsea that won the Double last season, they are a fantastic team."

There was a point when the action around theor goalmouth was like a pin-ball machine.
Coincidence that we do seem to have "turned the corner" due to forthcoming competition with the new signings...or were we on course for this anyway. (I suspect a bit of both).
Anelka behind the front two was interesting and worked exceptionally well (Can you imagine the pace if we have Drogba and Torres spearhead with Anelka just behind?!
Got to start stopping this conceding the first goal lark though...
