Chelsea may have relinquished their FA Cup with a whimper against Everton a week or so ago, but last night at a packed and rocking Stamford Bridge, their grip on the title slowly tightened as the defending CHAMPIONS came back from a goal down to beat the League leaders. It remains to be seen if the grip can strengthen - maybe now people will believe the words that John Terry 'fired' off in the pre-match build-up.
At SAF's age you would have thought he would have started to mellow and maybe he needs to remember to look around his own front room - Rooney, before criticising others - Luiz and referee Martin Atkinson.
Everybody believes that Rooney should have been suspended for last night's clash and it was no surprise when he gave Utd the lead with a low shot that went rifling past Cech's right arm.
The goal came after intense United pressure, despite Chelsea starting brightly and Torres nearly giving The Blues the lead at The Shed End with only two minutes on the clock from a shot at the edge of the area.
Unfortunately Torres' goal was disallowed due to an infringement in the area.
Had Utd's pressure and dominating possession been converted into goals, we would have been on the bus way before half-time.
Chelsea's best chance of the half to equalise came from a Super Frank free-kick which Van Der Sar managed to parry, from the rebound, Ivanovic flicked it, Van Der Sar got a hand to it then incredibly he got another touch from Ivanovic again, finally the ball was cleared.
Chelsea came out for the second-half a completely different team and David Luiz equalised with a firm volley inside the area which set the stage for a Chelsea onslaught.
Chelsea continued to pressure and with the tremendous home support behind them, substitute Yuri Zhirkov skipped into the area and was tripped by Smalling.
Super Frank smashed home the resulting penalty high into the net sending Stamford Bridge into raptures.
Vidic was sent-off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence, then cue...........
