So the corrupt cup returns and we find ourselves in yet another quarter-final, and for the third time, against English opposition. I’d like to see us go-for-it a bit on this one and leave ourselves with a decent chance of going through to the semis.
We will need to play a reasonably high line and press whilst it’s likely that Ferguson will play a 5-man midfield with Rooney as a lone-striker – the object; to stifle us and hit us on the break.
Lapping it up?
On the subject of Rooney and his swear-word tirade, I note that the media and public are so “shocked and disgusted” that at least one station insisted on repeating it! The same thing happened with a flip-flopped Drogba after the Great UEFA-Ovrebo Robbery against Barcelona. Still, I suppose we are used to the hypocrisy constantly served up to the grateful plebeian masses.
The wounded
Rio Ferdinand has been in training only very recently and the media information (or possibly dis-information in this case?) is that he won’t make tonight although Anderson could return.
For out part, there is no queue outside the treatment room – even Benayoun has been back in training – and wouldn’t it be interesting to see him come off the bench and see how he links up with Torres?
“Oh David Luiz! You are the love of my life! Oh David Luiz! I’d let you sh-g my wife!...” is unfortunately cup-tied, but this lives a fortuitous space for good old Brana! Alex, whilst back in training is unlikely to feature according to Ancelotti.

With Evans and Vidic at the centre of the Manchester United defence, it is imperative that Torres gets the service to be able to run at them, and hopefully, he will be more than ably assisted by Drogba who would cause more than a disruptive influence – or will Ancelotti opt for the pace of Anelka? Drogba played the full 90 mins whilst Anelka was taken off against Stoke, and the pattern with our forwards seems to be that whoever played a full match previously gets rested for the next game.
A 0-0 is not a bad result of course (an away goal at the Theatre of Prawns would make it very difficult for them in the return leg) but I’ve got a sneaky feeling tonight will be the night for Torres…(Have I cursed it now?!).
