Chelsea 1-0 Wigan: Is Didier Jealous of Torres?

Fernando Torres was on the bench until the last half hour. Didier Drogba started and finished the game and did alright except for his corners and free-kicks until Torres came on and although without a goal, Torres ran Chelsea's front-line show, with Benayoun (returning from a long-term injury) giving service to Torres that he craved.

It was unfortunate for Torres for the second time in as many days, the opposition 'keeper was in fine form.

First there was Van Der Saar on Wednesday foiling Torres and yesterday it was the turn of Ali Al Habsi to foil the £50m signing and if you believe the headlines, Torres is the same man that Mr A is fed up with and wants to sell in the Summer.

Throughout the game there was a lot of derision from the home support, obviously they were expecting a glut of goals from 5 to 8 (just like last season), the scoreline may have been different had Malouda converted a Didier cross as early as thirty seconds on the clock.

Instead the ball got caught under Malouda's foot then eventually the ball was cleared.

From then on, Chelsea struggled.

It was like watching a Guinness going flat after the Guinness performance of Wednesday night.

At half-time, Ancelotti withdrew Mikel and brought on Benayoun and Chelsea's dynamic changed.

Chelsea became much more attack minded and then Anelka was withdrawn for Torres on the hour, Torres looked sharp and if I am to be honest, Didier played like a spoilt-brat especially after the crowd welcomed Torres on to the pitch in anticipation of the 'miracle.'

Torres could do no more than he did. He created a chance for himself, Yossi created a chance for Torres but unfortunately for Torres and the faithful, Wigan's Ali Al Habsi proved to be an extremely good goalkeeper.

Drogba however did everything he could to turn the attention back to him. I am afraid the tricks backfired. All the flicks didn't come off and the pole-axing of himself in the last seconds were ignored by Wigan and derided by the MH faithful as Wigan attacked for an equaliser.

Franco Di Santo was welcomed back to Stamford Bridge like a hero acknowledging the faithful bashing his heart and if it wasn't for a brilliant low save by Cech in the last minute from a Di Santo header, Chelsea's season would have well and truly ended and no doubt Ancelotti would have been out of a job as I write.

If Chelsea has any chance of winning at Old Trafford on Tuesday, Ancelotti has to start with Benayoun and Torres, there is no choice, it is so obvious!!!
