Spurs Preview: U18s Set the Standard

On Friday night the U18s reached their 2nd FA Youth Cup final in three years after beating Man Utd, 3-2 on aggregate. The game at the Bridge finished 1-1. Jack Barmby scored for Utd and the ever improving Lucas Piazon scored the goal that put Chelsea into the final.
The 1st leg of the final against Blackburn Rovers is at The Bridge on Friday 20th April, kick-off 7pm.
It has been an absolute pleasure watching the U18s in their cup run this season. They have played without fear, they have been allowed to express themselves and they have played good football and they have battled to the end.
Considering Abramovich has spent £10m creating a world academy class at Cobham Halls, I fear the likes of Piazon, Feruz, Blackman, Kane, Davey, Kiwomya etc will go the same way of previous ‘hot’ talent have in recent years and never feel a 1st team shirt on their backs.
I hope I am wrong!!
Although Wembley old and new has been a successful hunting ground for Chelsea since 1997, against Tottenham wins at the stadium have proved more difficult.
In the 1967 FA Cup final, Tottenham won 2-1 and in the Carling Cup final in 2008, Tottenham won 2-1 after extra-time.
The last time the two clubs met in the FA Cup back in 2007, Chelsea won 2-1 at the Lane after a 3-3 draw at The Bridge and a similar result today will go down quite nicely and will make up for the simply annoying and inconsiderate kick-off time imposed by the TV companies and sanctioned by the ‘idiot’ suits at the FA.
Ivanovic lost his appeal which was expected and will miss out today plus the games against Arsenal and QPR so expect Paulo Ferreira to come in at right-back.
Ashley Cole is expected to return at left-back and ‘One England Captain,’ JT is expected to continue his rib injury rehabilation in the centre of defence.
