Well it was nothing like the 5-3. Nothing like it at all. With Barcelona in mind RDM made eight changes for a game that Chelsea simply had to win to continue their quest for Corrupt Cup football next season. With 5pur5 still imploding the door for 4th place is still ajar. In the league, QPR and Newcastle are next on the Stamford Bridge horizon but before that is a small matter of Barca in the Nou Camp.
Chelsea smothered Arsenal just like Chelsea smothered Barcelona a few days before and the expert whinger took the words out of my mouth saying that Chelsea practised for Tuesday night.
Well Mr W, Chelsea practised for you last Wednesday night.
Arsenal did hit the woodwork twice, clueless Kalou lacked the killer pass on more than one occasion and showboating Sturridge is starting to get on my nerves… well with his showboating.
Bobby Di should have withdrawn Kalou at half-time not with 17 minutes to go and when Mata did get involved, he simply looked lost.
Drogba, had he been fit would have had a field day against Koscielny and Vermaelen and the good news is, Didier is expected to return for the battle on Tuesday night.
You take what you can in life and if someone had said to me six weeks ago, Chelsea will be in the FA Cup final, on the verge of a 2nd Corrupt Cup final and knocking on the door for Corrupt Cup qualification, I would have laughed and replied ‘yeah right, hahaha!!’
Bobby Di’s words
“It was not so much a question of resting players, it was a question of selecting a team that could win this game against Arsenal, because it is a crazy schedule.
“After our third game in less than six days we are happy with the point, away at Arsenal where it is always difficult to play.
“It is an incredible demand on these players but we showed there’s great quality in this team and the spirit is very high.
“At the moment we have a lot of players available, we don’t have many injuries. Only time will tell whether we can cope with this schedule.”
Wenger’s said
“I don’t recall Chelsea having one chance.
“It was a strange game because it was a game I thought would be an open one because Chelsea had to win and we had to win, but they decided to lock up the game, play three defensive midfielders and catch us on the break.
“We had a solid defensive performance but going forward we didn’t find our quick passing game and didn’t open them up enough. Chelsea are experienced and good at making us play the ball where they want us to play it.”
