Spurs Win Comfortably at The Rec

Despite having a Czech International, Jari Jarosik and an England International, Wayne Bridge in the team for tonights match at The Rec, Tottenham still proved too strong for a Chelsea team who finished one place below Tottenham last season, with Spurs winning 2-0.

Goals from Phil Ifil after 32 mins when he dispossessed 17 yr old Swiss boy Jonas Elmer, in fact Ifil was too strong for him, Ifil played a one-two before cutting in and hitting a left foot shot passed the diving Pidgeley.

Tottenham's second goal came after 67 minutes when Johnnie Jackson hit a low shot from the corner of the area, after being fed in by Tottenham's top scorer last season, Lee Barnard.

Both sides showed lots of endeavour and had an equal share of possession but it was Tottenham who had the cutting edge. Robert Burch Tottenham's goalkeeper had an extremely quiet night as Chelsea did not record a single shot on target.

Jari Jarosik, soon it appears going on loan to Birmingham, twice blasted high over the bar and into the woods behind the goal during the first half, sending the ball retrievers into a tizz trying to find the balls amongst the woodland.

Other than picking the ball out of the net twice, Lenny Pidgeley didn't have a shot to save either. Although in the first half he was involved in a Spurs disallowed goal when Michael Brown headed the ball out of his hands.

Early second half substitutions from coach Mick McGiven - Tillen on for Hollands and Grant on for the ineffective Elmer proved to be fruitless as Tottenham won deservedly.

Both Wayne Bridge and Jari Jarosik both completed ninety minutes.
