First Chelsea Hat-Trick This Season

Yesterday morning at Cobham the Academy beat a Leicester team 4-2 with sixteen year-old Scott Sinclair hitting a hat-trick and becoming the first Chelsea player through the ranks to do so this season. Leicester started the game without conceding a goal this season.

Coach Brendan Rodgers enthused, "This was a tough game. Leicester were strong and committed, and very hard working. They came into the game top of their Group with three wins out of three, eight goals scored and none conceded."

For Chelsea's first, Rodgers described, "Dean Furman hit a terrific cross-field pass," said Brendan, "and he took a touch to go inside the area and hit a clinical finish into the top of the net."

After Leicester equalised with a good goal another 16 year old, Harry Worley, a summer signing, put Chelsea back in front. "Ryan Bertrand’s corner was half-cleared and Harry spun and shot. A great finish," said Brendan. It was the centre-half’s first goal in Chelsea colours.

However, with 25 minutes to go Leicester beat Chelsea’s offside trap to equalise for a second time.

"The boys dug deep," beaming Brendan said. Then Sinclair took over. "He cut in from the left side, beat a defender and whipped a near post shot which beat the goalkeeper to make it 3-2."

Sinclair saved the best until last. "From wide left he went past three and set himself up on the edge of the box with a terrific bit of skill to create space, then drilled it in the top corner.

"We have continued our excellent start," Brendan concluded.

The youth team are away to MK Dons next week.

Team: Taylor; Hutchinson, Worley, Mancienne, Bertrand; Cork (c); Fernandes, Furman; Simmonds (Saarelma); Sinclair, Watkins (Cummings).

From four games, Chelsea has won two - Wolves 2-1, and Leicester 4-2, Drawn one - Coventry 1-1 and lost one - Man City 0-2.
