And Two Days of Carling Cup

But what are the media going to make of it? Where are they going to turn? For a start their regular club 'basher' Chelsea do not join the competition until the third round along with the likes of Arsenal (who scored two goals from set-pieces last night), Man Ure, Liverpool and all the other clubs involved in European Competition. So who or whom will they bash tomorrow and Thursday morning?

The League Cup has never been a crowd puller until the later rounds and at least not since the days the 'top' clubs began to play low-strength sides, (and because the League Cup has not been on the 'priority' list of trophies to be won) and Chelsea fans can say that never happened at our club.

So where did this 'attendance bashing' begin. Last week at Stamford Bridge after the Chelsea v Anderlecht European Champions League League game, cos after all that is all it was and with the greatest respect to Anderlecht, against a team before the match that had LOST their previous Seven ECL games. I think Chelsea shot themselves in the foot, at least with season ticket holders. I mean charging season tickets holders the same matchday price for their own seat and of course not forgetting those fans who were charged the same - at the end of the day - for being disabled. One of Chelsea's arguments was that they didn't want to be seen discriminating against abled-bodied fans. What a load of codswallop!! For a far as I can remember disabled fans have always been let it free at Stamford Bridge and it was a always a sight to see so many green 'disabled' three-wheeled cars parked in front of the old Shed End.

Come on Chelsea, you can do better than that!

Anyway back to the League Cup.

Where are we going to get the 'high' attendances from?

Not Charlton - Possibly more away fans than home - including Jeff Stelling.

Not Sunderland - I mean a 48,000 ground capacity is hardly going to be filled to the rafters for the visit of Cheltenham (No disrespect)

Not Wigan - Against 'Boro on Saturday they could only muster less than 17,000.

Lets see what teams are home to Premiership sides then!

Full Houses (more or less guaranteed)

Grimsby v Tottenham

Wycombe v Aston Villa

Sheff Wed v West Ham

Scunthorpe v Birmingham

Rotherham v Leeds

Reading v Luton

Mansfield v Southampton

Imagine it though, if those seven fixtures were reversed. Would they be sell-outs? No course they won't. Would the press start to bash? No course they won't. Simply because the above mentioned teams especially those named first, need the money and unless they succeed in this competition or their various divisions this season are never going to see a 'full-house' again (well at least until the start of the FA Cup).

This site has already gone through the 'attendance' thing this weekend already, and until the message gets across that the 'attendance problem' is NOT Chelsea's fault then this site will continue to highlight those games, that should have attracted more bums on seats than they did. And if Chelsea needs to be on the list, then so be it. LOL!
