While the First Team's Away.........

Whilst the first team were on European duty at Liverpool, somehow the reserves got to play on the same night, ok kicking off forty-five minutes earlier, which seems a tad bit strange especially if you are a fan of Chelsea reserve football and like to take advantage of 'free' admission to the game.

But that's what happened. Forty-five minutes prior to the 'revenge' of Britain kicking off at Anfield, Chelsea Reserves played host to Norwich Reserves at Aldershot's Recreation Ground.

Included in Chelsea's Reserves team were first-teamers on the road to recovery from injury, Wayne Bridge and Asier Del Horno. Bridgey played the full 90 minutes and Del Horno played 45 minutes. Both are well on the way to be returning to first team action.

For the record Chelsea won 2-0 with first half goals from Phil Younghusband and Jimmy Smith.

Coach Mick McGiven in his post match reflections said, "We played very well in the first-half. We scored the two goals, the goalkeeper was making saves, we got our crosses in. But in the second-half we kept giving the ball away."

Regarding Jimmy Smith's goal, McGiven said, "Now we’re calling him ‘Goal a game Smith.’ His last three goals for us, against Southampton, Watford and here against Norwich have been quality goals."
