Third Victory Over the Canaries This Season!

The Academy travelled to Norwich City on Saturday and came away with all three points, a fourth win on the trot and a fourth successive clean sheet (1st team take note). Without Scott Sinclair who is on reserve duty tonight (live coverage on the message board from 7pm) the Academy won 3-0 with all the goals coming in the first half.

Dean Furman helped himself to the first two goals and Liam Bridcutt added the third.

Naturally coach Brendan Rodgers was very pleased. He said "For the first, the ball was worked to the right and he hit a 25 yarder in the top corner. Outstanding! For the second there was good passing, and he finished going past two players, running well with the ball, and rifling in a left-footed shot."

On the third goal, Rodgers explained "An inswinging corner from Ryan Bertrand, and Liam finished right-footed from six yards out."

Although the Academy had beaten Norwich three times this season, including the FA Youth Cup Rodgers went on to explain that this result wasn't easy. "It’s difficult going there, they’re a very good footballing club, and on a difficult pitch our first-half performance was outstanding. The game was a bit broken up in the second-half, however we still created a number of chances.

"They were stronger than in the Youth Cup because they had three third-year players playing." Chelsea had none. "We’ve got the best defensive record in the League now. That’s 11 clean sheets this season. That’s an unbelievable record for youth team players. Overall the result showed the continuing progress of individual players."

It was a good trip overall for Chelsea because the Under 16s beat their Under 16s 4-1.

Icon winner Sam Hurrell got his sixth start for the team. Keep going Sam!!!
