Rovers Sign Barnsley Winger Shuker

Ronnie Moore is set to make Chris Shuker his ninth signing of the summer tomorrow subject to a medical after the Barnsley winger agreed to come to Prenton Park after a dispute at Oakwell seemed to left his bridges burned in terms of a new contract.

 

Tranmere have confirmed that Barnsley winger Chris Shuker will sign for the Club tomorrow subject to the 24 year old passing a medical after the winger agreed to a two-year deal at Prenton Park.

 

The former Manchester City player had looked set to sign on at Barnsley for at least another year but a dispute over the length of time taken by Shuker to sign on the dotted line has seen Tranmere take advantage in a big way.

 

Subject to a medical tomorrow, Shuker will sign a two-year deal at Prenton Park and follows John Mullin, Paul McLaren, Kevin Ellison and the re-signed Jason McAteer into the Rovers midfield for the forthcoming season.

 

In addition to the new midfielders, Rovers have also signed goalkeeper Gavin Ward, defenders Robbie Stockdale and Shane Sherriff and striker Gareth Taylor.

 

Rovers are also set to give former defender/defensive midfield player George Santos a trial against Heswall FC tomorrow in the first of Rovers pre-season friendlies at 3.00pm.

 

Speaking to the Official Tranmere Rovers Website this evening, Ronnie Moore said “Chris is a great signing for the Club.  We have worked very hard to bring him to the Club and we are glad we have been able to do it.  He is an old fashioned style of winger who uses tricks and likes to beat people.  He is a player you would pay to watch and we are glad he will be at Prenton Park this season.”

 

Speaking himself to the Official Website shortly after his signing was announced, Shuker said “After all of the speculation over the last few days, I'm glad it has gone through and I've signed for Tranmere.  Ronnie Moore has a good track record and has signed some very good

players already to add to the ones already at the Club.”

 

I've played against Chris Greenacre, Gareth Taylor and Kevin Ellison and know they are top quality.  I wouldn't have signed for Tranmere if I didn't think we could get promoted. I've come to get promotion. I did it at Barnsley last season and I think the squad here is good enough to do it this season.”

 

"Last season didn't finish for me until May 27 so I've not had any pre-season training yet. I can't wait to have my medical then join the rest of the squad training.  I'm delighted to have signed for Tranmere."
