This morning’s Johnstone’s Paints Trophy Draw has handed Rovers a trip to Gigg Lane to face League Two side Bury in two weeks time. After failing to get a bye through the first round, Rovers were handed a possible seven ties and Bury away was drawn out this morning.

Last time Rovers met Bury, Tranmere triumphed 1-0 at Prenton Park in the League Cup in August 2003 thanks to a Eugene Dadi goal two minutes from time.

 

The last meeting between the sides at Gigg Lane was in this competition in December 2002 when goals from Jon Newby and Dave Nugent sealed a 2-0 win for the Shakers.

 

Bury boast former Rovers defender Chris Challinor in their side and Rovers may have to look out for his long throw-in’s if he plays.

For this year’s competition, extra-time has been scrapped with any games that are level after 90 minutes going straight to a penalty shoot-out.

 

Free tickets are also being made available for matches in a bid to appeal to Children who may not otherwise attend these midweel games on school nights.
