The Latest Happenings in League One!

All League One teams were in first round FA Cup action this weekend and in one of several all League One ties, Blackpool lost 1-0 away to Huddersfield Town in a fixture that is to be repeated at Bloomfield Road this weekend.

 

After beating Notts County 2-1 in the Cup, Leyton Orient have today loaned out midfielder Daryl McMahon to the magpies for a month.  Orient will now try to get a win at home to Yeovil Town on Saturday without the services of McMahon.  The Glovers were knocked out of the Cup 3-1 at Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday.

 

Brentford boss, Leroy Rosenior has suffered criticism from supporters after four losses in a row, the latest being a first round FA cup knockout by League One rivals Doncaster Rovers.  In an interview, Rosenior said "I have had a lot of stick which is understandable but the fans have to keep the faith”.

 

The Bees will try to end their rot at home this Saturday against Crewe Alexandra who have been dealt a blow with the news that captain Neil Cox has received a hamstring injury on his return match following a previous calf injury.

 

News of the injury to Cox came just two days after Crewe were beaten 4-0 at Bradford City in the FA Cup first round.  The Bantams will now face Millwall who narrowly scraped through the first round 2-1 away at Havant and Waterlooville on Monday night and the Lions face Doncaster Rovers at the New Den this weekend in League One.

 

After narrowly beating York 1-0 in the FA cup, Bristol City host Gillingham in the next round and also play them at home this Saturday.  The Gills comfortably went into the 2nd round of the FA cup against their near neighbours Bromley and they will now be hoping that a trip to Ashton Gate in the next round will not be the end of their winning streak.

 

Meanwhile, former MK Dons defender Ben Chorley has stated that he is keen to get a permanent contract at the Priestfield Stadium.

Bournemouth thrashed League Two side Boston United 4-0 including a record breaking goal by Danny Holland who scored from 43.7 yards.  Next up for the Cherries in League One this weekend is Carlisle United who were beaten 3-1 at Swindon in the Cup.

 

Brighton and Hove Albion were the highest scorers in the FA cup first round as they put eight goals past non-league side Northwich Victoria, however they will not expect such an easy game at home to Tranmere Rovers this Saturday.  Rovers overcame Conference side Woking 4-2 and now host League Two side Peterborough in the next round.

 
A replay will have to be played between Cheltenham Town and Scunthorpe United as they were at a stalemate at Whaddon Road.  The winners of the replay will have a home tie against League Two side Wrexham. 

 

News from Whaddon Road includes boss John Ward offering a new contract to top scorer Grant McCann.  However McCann has not yet committed his future to the Robins who will face an away trip to Saltergate to play Chesterfield this Saturday whilst Scunthorpe will face Northampton Town at home.  The Cobblers drew with Grimsby in the Cup and now face a replay.

Chesterfield were on the back of the biggest upset of the first round as they were beaten 1-0 at home to lower league outfit Basingstoke.

 

League One leaders Nottingham Forest cruised through to the second round of the FA cup with a 5-0 win over Yeading, and they will be aiming to hit the 40 points mark in the League with a win at Rotherham United on Saturday.  The Millers were beaten at home in the Cup by Peterborough at the weekend.

Oldham Athletic were involved in an interesting game against Kettering which ended 4-3 after the Latics scored a late winner.  Oldham now face Bradford City in the league which will not be an easy game.

Port Vale beat Lincoln City 2-1 in the FA Cup and will face Swansea City at home in the League this Saturday.  In the Cup, Swansea won the all welsh tie against Newport County by 3 goals to 1 and today they have also agreed to bring in Birmingham Defender Marcos Painter for a month on loan.
