Coca-Cola League One at Brisbane Road
By Deadly Submarine
Rovers are on the road again this weekend and this time it’s destination London to face relegation battlers Leyton Orient at Brisbane Road.
With the Whites now unbeaten in their last three matches home and away, hopes will be high amongst Rovers fans of the team bringing three points back from the capital but Orient are perhaps one of the most unpredictable teams in League One as their midweek 5-2 win away at Millwall showed.
Only a few weeks ago, Orient also hit four without reply on the road against Crewe Alexandra but then lost 5-0 in their very next away game at Bournemouth. Their home form has been less than consistent in the last few matches at Brisbane Road having only won one of their last six games there.
Tranmere on the other hand have only won once in their last six away trips but are unbeaten in their last three matches home and away.
When the two sides met earlier in the season, the game brought one of the most bizarre goals of the season and perhaps of all time from a Rovers player as goalkeeper Gavin Ward launched a 70-yard free-kick from just outside his own penalty area and watched as it bounced over the Orient keeper who got a touch on the ball but couldn’t prevent it going into the goal.
That goal in the ninth minute set Rovers on their way to a comfortable 3-0 win as Chris Greenacre added two more goals either side of half-time to hand the home side the three points.
For those who are making the trip to London like myself, make sure you get behind the lads and enjoy the game as we hope for three more valuable points in Rovers’ push for promotion.
Latest Team News
Leyton Orient
The home side will be without Donny Barnard (knee), Luke Gutteridge and Jabo Ibehre for the visit of Tranmere but Gary Alexander is expected to be able to shake of a shin injury in order to play in the match.
Tranmere Rovers
Rovers’ defensive problems have worsened prior to this game as both first choice centre-backs Ian Goodison and Chris McCready are suspended for one match.
In addition to that problem, Manager Ronnie Moore is also definitely without the pair’s fellow defenders John Thompson (knee), Robbie Stockdale (calf) whilst Carl Tremarco (calf) is also a major doubt.
This leaves Shane Sherriff as Rovers only available defender which could mean a move to centre back and right back for striker Gareth Taylor and midfielder Danny Harrison respectively. If Taylor does move to the defence, Calvin Zola would be the likely player to partner Chris Greenacre upfront.
Goalkeeper John Achterberg could now miss the rest of the season with a leg injury so Gavin Ward will again play in goal with young reserve keeper Shane McWeeney likely to be on the bench.
