Carlisle United are the visitors to Prenton Park this week for the final dose of Friday Night Football for this season at least.
Rovers need three points from this game or they can virtually kiss goodbye to their play-off chances following last week’s appalling performance and ultimate defeat away at struggling Bournemouth.
Rovers will also be looking to get their home form back on track following the 2-0 defeat in their last home match against fellow play-off hopefuls Swansea City.
Since then Rovers have won one and lost one, both away from home so the chance to atone for the home defeat to Swansea has been a long time in coming.
There may not be a worse time for Tranmere to be coming up against Carlisle following United’s 5-0 home win over Gillingham last Saturday which coupled with Rovers defeat at Bournemouth surely places the visitors in good position.
When the sides met earlier in the season, Carlisle were 1-0 winners thanks to a first half goal from Kevin Gall but when the sides last met at Prenton Park it was a game that most of the fans who were there will never forget.
The LDV Vans Trophy (Northern Section) Quarter Final game ended in stalemate after extra-time and after a staggering twenty penalties had been scored (ten from each side) it was left to Rovers goalkeeper Steve Wilson to miss awfully before Carlisle sealed the sudden-death win with the next spot-kick.
In 28 games between the sides at Prenton Park, Rovers have won 15 and lost just 8 scoring 62 goals in the process.
Get behind the lads and enjoy the game. Three points is vital if Rovers are to prolong their season and a win on Friday would put some pressure on the other play-off chasing teams who play on Saturday.

With defender Ian Goodison suspended after his sending off last Saturday at Bournemouth, Tranmere may be able to call on the returning John Thompson who will have to face a late fitness test prior to the game.
If Thompson fails his fitness test, it’s likely that Shane Sherriff will move to centre-back with Carl Tremarco coming into the left-back berth.
Midfielder Paul McLaren is out for up to a month and will not be available.
United have striker Joe Garner back in action after a one-game suspension and he may replace Derek Holmes.
