Pre Match Chat - Grimsby Fan (2)
By Deadly Submarine
August 10 2008
Total Tranmere reporter Deadly Submarine took time out this week to chat to two Grimsby Town fans ahead of the Carling Cup tie on Tuesday night to get their views on the game ahead as well as Grimsby's chances of promotion at the end of the 2008/09 season come next May. Here is the second interview............

What is you name and for how long have you supported Grimsby Town?
My name is Iain Biglin
ABOUT YOUR CLUB
What is your most memorable Grimsby Town moment/match?When we were in League 1 Grimsby played Barnsley and won 6-1 with Phil Jevons scoring 4 of the goals, including one where he dribbled around Marlon Beresford and a Barnsley defender inside the 6 yard box.
I will remember the game for 2 other reasons though, Michael Boulding was on the Barnsley bench having left Grimsby the month before when we really needed a goal-scorer to complement Jevons.
Isaiah, who was on loan at the time from Barnsley, scored one of the goals and then ran to celebrate in front of the Barnsley fans just to rub their noses in it a little bit more!
Your worst moment supporting Grimsby Town?
Relegation from the Championship in 2003 hit me harder than being relegated from League 1 the following season - when you had a hand in sending us down on the last day of the season.
Grimsby always seemed to hang into the Championship by the skin of their teeth and so when we were finally sent down it was a huge blow to a club punching above its weight for years.
In your eyes who is Grimsby's All-Time Greatest Player and why?
From the players I have seen playing at Blundell Park, Danny Coyne would have to be my Greatest player. I remember listening to an away game on the radio and I swear I heard the words "Coyne saves!" at least 20 times!!
Taxi For? (To which Player would you pay a Taxi Fare to leave the Club?)Peter Bore – he came into the team 2 seasons ago now and finished as the clubs joint top goal-scorer, mainly thanks to 5 goals in 2 games against Boston.
Since then however he has flattered to deceive, taking on players almost at will but never seeming to have an end product, couple that with a lack of effort in tracking back and he is the most frustrating player at the club.
Which Grimsby player can do most damage to Tranmere Rovers on Tuesday Night?
If he is fit Peter Till will be the one to watch out for. He plays on the right wing or just behind a lone striker and is direct and pacy. Was probably our best attacking player in our Wembley visit last year.
Is Alan Buckley the right man to get Grimsby out of League Two?
Quite a few fans think that Buckley is past it but personally I think that the squad seems to be taking shape and actually has some depth in most areas of the pitch with 2 players for each position.
We play good football, even if we don't shoot from distance often enough, and for that reason I think he should be at least given time to see where he takes us.
Any Grimsby Chants we should try to listen out for at the game? Two Pontoon classics:
"We p*ss on your fish, Yes we dooo, Yes we dooo!"
"We only sing when were fishing, sing when were fiisshhinnggg!"
LEAGUE TWO VIEWS
What is your Top Two Prediction for League Two this season?
I think that Shrewsbury are in with a shout of being at the top of the league - especially with the money they have spent, probably with Wycombe and Chesterfield in the other top automatic spots.
Play-Off Winners?
Lincoln made the play-offs for a few years on the spin and suffered a blip last year, but they look like they make a return to their old form under Peter Jackson.
Your tip for the Bottom Three places?
Three clubs in League 2 look likely to start with points deductions this season and I don't see any of them being able to do a Leeds so it is going to have to be those 3 clubs propping up the league: Luton, Bournemouth and Rotherham.
THE TWO CLUBS
Where do you think Grimsby Town will finish this season?
Grimsby need two things this year, more goals and Phil Barnes to show the form which made the best keeper in the division. If both of those things click then I think we have an outside chance of finishing in 7th for the last play off spot.
Do you think Tranmere will be Promoted/Relegated from League One and why?
I think that you will be up their fighting for a play off spot this season and should be nowhere near relegation. It will interesting to see if Charlie Barnett can replace Steven Davies has your creative outlet.
Gary Jones was a Tranmere hero! Does he have the same status at Blundell Park?
The Lump got a stick from some fans last season, but he always worked hard for the team and had probably the best football brain at the club, which he needed due to a lack of pace. His link with Curtis Woodhouse was particularly impressive with many of our goals two seasons ago coming from their link.
What is your Prediction for Tuesday's game between the sides?
Going to say a 1-1 draw going to penalties and from there its anybodies game.
EDITORS NOTE - Usually with Tranmere and Penalty shoot-outs it's the opposing teams game!
Any other comments to add?Good luck braving the weather on a wet Grimsby Tuesday night!!
Thanks very much for your time and enjoy the game (but not too much) and good luck for the rest of the Season after Tuesday.
