Tranmere Rovers 4 - 1 Carlisle Utd Match Snippets

Following Rovers' excellent 4-1 home win over Carlisle United on Saturday afternoon, Deadly Submarine takes a brief look at the major events in the game and the highs and lows of a mixed afternoon at Prenton Park that seemed to go from one extreme to another.

Weather Report

A dry but often cold afternoon at Prenton Park which was often forgotten about thanks to a lively second half which saw all five goals scored.

Crowd

5,924 Great support as ever from the visiting Carlisle fans who arrived by the coach load.   However, despite the two teams over the water not playing (against each other) until Sunday afternoon in the FA Cup, the attendance today was perhaps a litle disappointing.

Referee Watch

Graham Salisbury (Lancashire) - A cardless game and a decent win for the home side meant that from a Tranmere point of view at least the referee went largely unnoticed in the game although he did try to keep the game flowing with some decent advantages played in favour of both sides at times  - 9/10

Best Moment

You could take your pick for this game for anything from Gareth Edds finally netting for the first time since pre-season, to another wonderful finish from Ian Moore but I'm going to go for the appearance late on of youngster Josh Macauley.  At 4-1 up Ronnie gave him his chance and the experience will no doubt be invaluable to the lad!

Worst Moment

The Carlisle goal was probably the worst moment of the game because of the manner in which it was scored although the first half as a whole was pretty dire as a spectacle.

Funniest Moment

The 'banter' between certain fans in the Main Stand once again provided the entertainment during the game.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Ian Moore - Run close by the excellent Steven Jennings but Moore outshone the rest and should probably have had a hat-trick by the end of the game.  Ran his socks off for the cause in both halves of the game.

Connections

Former Rovers loanee and boyhood Tranmere Fan David Raven once again lined up for the Cumbrians.

Rovers Fans

Made some noise once the goals started going in but in the first half the tempo and style of the game seemed to match the mood of the home supporters.

Carlisle Fans

Got behind their team once again in vast numbers and deserved more than their players gave them today at Prenton Park.  Full credit to them once more for some excellent travelling support.

Summary

A superb win which I for one did not forsee despite our currently excellent home form.  Seven points from the next three games (one at home and two away) may see us firmly back in the play-off hunt in League One.

Entertainment Value

After a pooor first half which almost sent me to sleep the second half was a totally different game and Rovers were deserved winners in the end in an entertaining encounter - 8/10
