Tranmere R v Stockport C

Coca-Cola League One at Prenton Park

After waiting almost a month for a home game following the postponement of the Peterborough match a few weeks ago, Rovers now find themselves facing a second home game in the space of four days as Stockport County visit Prenton Park in Coca-Cola League One.

Fans of both teams will be hoping for better than the 0-0 draw that was served up back in October on a freezing cold night in Greater Manchester in a game in which Rovers worked hard (and had to) to earn their point as Andy Taylor was also sent off late on for a second yellow card.

This game has some added spice as County sit just one place and one point above Rovers in the League One table with Stockport in 8th place and Rovers in 9th and both in with a play-off chance come the end of the season.

A win for Rovers therefore would see them leapfrog County into at least 8th place and if Southend can pull off a shock at Elland Road, Rovers could find themselves in 7th place come Tuesday night.

Rovers home form is excellent with five straight wins in the last five matches nine wins in total at home from thirteen League matches this season.  Stockport have won twice in their last six matches home and away and have notched just two wins in six on their travels although in total they have won almost half of all their away matches this season and twice as many as Rovers have won on their travels.

As mentoned above, Tranmere go into the game on the back of a 4-1 home win over Carlisle United whilst Stockport lost 3-1 away to near neighbours Oldham Athletic at the weekend.

Rovers have won half of the past meetings between the sides at Prenton Park and have scored twice as many goals as County over the years.  History can easily go out of the window in football though and Rovers will need more of what they produced on Saturday to get the three points.

If you're going to the game, get behind the lads and enjoy it!!

Tranmere Team News

Ronnie Moore seems unlikely to tinker with the team that thumped Carlisle United 4-1 on Saturday at Prenton Park although he is boosted by the return of striker Bas Savage who missed that game through suspension.

Fellow strikers Craig Curran and Chris Greenacre are both still out and Terry Gornell and Anthony Kay may also miss out in this game.
