Crewe Alexandra v Tranmere Rovers Match Preview

On the back of two excellent home wins in the space of a few days, Rovers now make the short away trip to Crewe on Saturday afternoon. Deadly Submarine looks ahead to the game at Gresty Road and brings you all the stats and the pre-match information.

Having been let down in recent months by their poor away form, Tranmere will be looking to kick-start their awaydays in style as they make their shortest away trip of the season to face Crewe Alexandra at Gresty Road.

On the back of two fantastic wins in the home confines of Prenton Park last week, there would surely be no better chances to kick on and sort of the dismal away form that sees Rovers positioned just outside the play-offs.

However, Tranmere's recent record at Gresty Road is not good.  They have failed to win in the last four games there between the sides so Ronnie Moore's men will have to overcome history if they are to gain all three points tomorrow.

Rovers' away form is as poor at the moment as Crewe's home form so it's sure to be an interesting game.  Crewe have won twice in their last six home games but have lost three of the other four whilst Tranmere have lost four and drawn two of their last six away from home.

The two sides are already familiar to each other having met twice already this season with both games taking place at Prenton Park.  In the first game which came in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Rovers won 1-0 in early October thanks to a goal from Chris Shuker just four minutes from time to send them through.

In the League game at Prenton Park just over two weeks later Tranmere went one better as they won 2-0 thanks to goals from Jennings and Shuker meaning that so far this season Crewe have failed to score against Tranmere.

Many Rovers fans will be hoping for a repeat of last season's game at Gresty Road but with a different result this time after Rovers lost 4-3 on New Years Day 2008 after twice being ahead through Andy Taylor and Chris Greenacre.  After Crewe had then gone 3-2 up, Paul McLaren scored a free-kick to level once more but O'Donnell handed Crewe the win in the 89^th minute.

If you are going to the game, which it would seem a large number of Rovers fans are, get behind the lads, enjoy the game and let's hope for three points on the road at last and then a surge up the League One table.

Ronnie Moore is once again unlikely to change the side that has won the last two matches although captain Antony Kay faces a late fitness test to put himself in contention for a starting place.

Strikers Craig Curran and Chris Greenacre are both still absent but Bas Savage will once again be available to add to the attacking options.
