Gaffer Moore on Colchester Away Trip

Ahead of tonight's trip to Colchester United for a second attempt at playing the League One game, Rovers' Boss Ronnie spoke about the current injury list and about the forthcoming game itself as Rovers look to get back to winning ways on the road for the first time since October 18th....

Speaking to in his Monday press conference and ahead of tonight's game at Colchester United, Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore revealed his hopes that the game will go ahead this time around.

He told Tranmere World.....

"It would have been ideal to take three points on Saturday, but we've taken 19 out of 21 at home so you can't be disappointed with that.  It's a tremendous points tally for the lads and we know that the problem is not here, it's getting that elusive win away from home, we've not won away from home since October."

"We know these next two games are going to be tough but the lads are keen and looking forward to the challenge.  It would be a nightmare if it's off again, to travel 5 hours down there and have it called off would be a massive disappointment for us." 

"The feedback we have is that it will go ahead and we can't put doubt in the players' minds, they have to be concentrating on the game as we have another opportunity to go into 7^th spot and hopefully we can take it this time."

"Sooner or later we will win away from home, our performances away from home recently have been quite good.  We weren't brilliant at Crewe but we did enough to take something out of the game and our performance at Millwall warranted something more than getting beat 1-0 so we know the performances are there and we're not a million miles away from putting in a decent performance away from home.  Colchester are the form side, we know it's going to be tough but it won't be easy for them either."

"Colchester won't sit back, they will come at us which will give us the chance to counter attack them, we have to get the right balance.  Defensively we looked rock solid on Saturday without Ian and got the clean sheet but we didn't win, we need to get the win without him now to put it to bed." 

"We have one or two tricky games coming up now, two tough away games but we know if we play to our ability then we are a match for anybody in this League.  Colchester have had a decent run and their manager has just got Manager of the Month but that can work in your favour sometimes the way results go on that one but it's about what we do - if we go there and play anything like we can play they'll know they've been in a game."

Speaking of the current injuries affecting a number of key players in the Rovers squad, Moore added....

"Sonko will travel today and we will have a look at him tomorrow, he's touch and go and has a 50/50 chance of playing.  Terry is one week away from starting training, Craig is out for 5 weeks with stomach injury, Goodison is out for at least 4 weeks and Greeny has another 3 weeks out."  

"We have some quality players missing but that will give opportunity for the younger lads.   We don't have millions of pounds to go and bring players in so long term injuries are a nightmare, especially with us now playing Saturday's and Tuesday's it becomes difficult." 

"You are going to pick up suspensions and injuries but that's the way it is, there is no point us complaining as most clubs run on a squad of 18-20 professionals, we are all in the same boat."

"Aaron Cresswell has been in the team and done ever so well, so he is putting pressure on Taylor.  The kids know if they're good enough they will get the opportunity but at the moment the eleven lads that are playing have done reasonably well so it's not really warranted me having to swap and change right now."
