Southend United Match Discussion Thread
By Deadly Submarine
February 13 2009
If you're unable to make the away game against Southend Utd on Saturday afternoon in Coca-Cola League One, why not discuss the game right here as Tranmere look to record a second away win in the space of a week in their second trip to Essex in five days.
At Total Tranmere, we always like to take note of feedback from the users of the site and respond to it in the best way we can. One thing we have picked up on more recently is that after Tranmere games there seem to be a lot of different threads that get started about the same game.
As a result of this feedback, from now on we will be providing Match Discussion Threads for every occasion when Tranmere play.Tranmere are of course playing away at Southend United tonight in Coca-Cola League One this afternoon so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on and even discuss the team news and build up to the game beforehand too?
Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses. Or why not post the line-ups or anything else you can think of.
You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores in League One as well as discussing the game afterwards if you have been along to the game.
What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

After arriving at 12.00pm (typical Selwyns - it's either one extreme of the other!), myself and Rich tucked into our very nice Pizzas and hung around outside gaining some valuable gossip.
After getting a free ticket for the second time in a week we went in to await the start of the game to the surprise news that Coyne was injured and Achterberg was in goal.
We found out later that Coyne had been injured after the team arrived in Essex and Peter Kennedy was flown down later on Friday (presumably to Stansted).
The defending in the first half was absymal with Theo Robinson causing all sorts of problems and Chorley having an absolute shocker which included the rubbish clearance that led to their goal after 2 minutes or so.
Second half, particularly after we scored the penalty (blatant handball by the way) we were the better side and looked set to deservedly hang on for at least a draw (if not snatching the win) until the referee gave a free-kick that should never have been, our players switched on Betsy the T**t scored in the 93rd minute.
Players performed as follows.....
Achterberg 9 - Man of the Match after keeping us in the game with a string of saves in both halves but particularly the first.
Taylor 6 - Defence as a whole were shocking at times. Taylor did nothing wrong as such and ended up limping off in the second half.
Chorley 4 - Absolute nightmare for the opener and nearly cost us another. Good as ever in the air but a bad day at the office.
Kay 6 - Did well at the back and supporting the midfield.
Shotton 6 - See Taylor description (minus the injury bit)
Shuker 6 - Poor first half but came into the game in the second, won the penalty and after we scored looked lively.
Jennings 8 - Another great Jenno performance and many people's tip for Man of the Match again today - just beaten by Achto though for me.
Edds 7 - Another good performance from Gareth in the centre in the second half.
Barnett 8 - Arguably his best performance for us so far in the second half - looked a threat going forward and helped out coming back.
Moore 6 - Excellent penalty but not his best game for us this season. Worked as hard as ever.
Savage 4 - The least said the better to be honest. A few improved perfromances from Bas lately and I've been trying hard not to judge him badly but today he was just awful.
He was lucky to not get sent off, dived and awful lot when it wasn't necessary and did very little.
Subs:
Cresswell 6 - Good performance from the youngster and a couple of good crosses into the box which we had lacked before his appearance.
Despite the result, we are still in a good position IF we can make at least two, if not all three of the upcoming home games count.
186 of us there today and deserved better. Some of the chanting and singing was again brilliant!

Shotton-6-did nothing wrong but on the other hand did nothing to make him stand out
Chorley-5-not his usual self! (mike mentioned him being good in the air, but he actually headed it sideways in their leadup to the goal.)
Kay-6-solid.
Taylor-shame he got injured but his performance was bland anyway didnt support going forward like cresswell did when he came on
Shuker-6-One of the worst players in the first half upped his game when we scored and won us the penalty. also selfish choosing to shoot rather than play moore in.
Edds-7-played well again made some good tackles and seems to have found some form of late.
Jennings-9-joint man of the match! solid as ever propper workhourse!
Barnett-9-also joint man of the match-constant threat going forward and good tracking back too, his linkup with cresswell was excellent.
Moore-6-not involved as much as he would like, great penalty though right in the bottom corner.
Savage-1-diving c**t. should've been off. constantly moaning. spends more time standing round with his hands on his hips than working. Should be docked wages. seriously! shocking.
cresswell-8-excellent when he came on, put in a big challenge to stop a goal threat! great defensively and very positive going forward.
If taylor is out for a few weeks i am not concerened at playing cresswell as i really think he deserves a chance especially playing like that, but i would be concerned about our thin squad.
