Peterborough United Match Discussion Thread

If you're unable to make the homematch against Peterborough Utd on Tuesday night in Coca-Cola League One, why not discuss the game right here as Tranmere go into the first of three away games on the bounce.

 Article Header - Match Discussion

At Total Tranmere, we always like to take note of feedback from the users of the site and respond to it in the best way we can.  One thing we have picked up on more recently is that after Tranmere games there seem to be a lot of different threads that get started about the same game.

As a result of this feedback, from now on we will be providing Match Discussion Threads for every occasion when Tranmere play.

Tranmere are of course playing at home to Peterborough United tonight in Coca-Cola League One so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on and even discuss the team news and build up to the game beforehand too?

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.  Or why not post the line-ups or anything else you can think of.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores in League One as well as discussing the game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

i think we'll win tonight,
sticking with our inconsistancy we lost on saturday so were due a win,
at the 4 attempt surely we can beat peterbrough,
their keepers not having a gd time at the mo and has a point to prove,

im going for 1-0 rovers

This is a tough but really important match. I we win this it sends out a huge message to the other teams we're battling with for a place in the play-offs.

Lets go out there and put the F.A. Cup defeat right, show them who's the better team and really begin that Promotion Push.

COME ON ROVERS

Where to start on this one....

Firstly, I can see the reasons Moore might give for going for 4-5-1 against a team with such good attacking options but for me it was the wrong decision.

Savage on his own upfront doesn't work as has been proved before and I do recall Moore saying recently "Ian won't play on the wing again this season" hmmmm.

At the end of the day, considering the way we played a draw is a good result although a lot of people are still unsure what the goal was disallowed for late on.

You said Savage doesnt work on his own, I believe Savage doesn't work as a part of the first team at all, although i do wonder what the goal was disallowed for. I thought both teams were poor to be honest, but not as poor as the ref, he missed some simple decisions and i mean going peterborough's way just as much as our way! Need to tighten up at the back and look interested going forward more. Savage is a clown and needs to be replaced quickly imo. Sonko was very good i thought considering he was a doubt and i was sad to see him subbed because he showed passion and was giving his all. Motm deffo charlie barnett today a constant threat although some of his free kicks and corners were poor.

For me, we would have won the game if Cresswell was given more freedom down the left. He was clearly told to stay back as he wasn't given a chance with any set pieces and never got down the line, until the final 10 minutes when he got forward and put in three superb crosses.

Elsewhere, Jenno and Edds were very good, IMO, Jenno MOTM whilst Shotton was good too. But Chorley has dropped off the pace and Kay wasn't great either. Moore couldn't get in the game whilst Savage and Sonko I thought were terrible.

I also thought Sonko didn't do badly to be fair but as Matt said Jennings was probably Man of the Match whilst Edds also did really well!

Sonko was awful. Cresswell was probably told to stay back because Sonko is the most unreliable defensive minded winger ever.

Should never of been 4-5-1 either.

Whilst Moore up front on his own has worked in the past, the same can not be said when Savage is given that role. I thought he failed to hold up the ball enough, and given his height is poor in the air.

Thought Sonko played okay, and a little unlucky to be taken off. Shuker didn't do much when he came on, and at times looked a little disinterested, again.

Goal supposedly ruled out for a push by Edds.

players ratings

achterberg 7 - made some descent saves, good to see him play
cresswell 7- played well, may well have won the game if we given more freedom
kay 6- not his usual self but sill decent
chorley 6- same as above
shotton 7 - did little wrong
barnett 8- great performance and goal
jennings 9- he ran the show, won tackles, set people up and had a few decent efforts *motm*
edds 7 - decent seemed lively
sonko - 5 not imvolved enough and was poor imo
moore -6 not bad, had a few good efforts
savage - 5 he was poor, too lazy and greedy

shuker - 5 didnt effect the game enough

overall i was pleased with the performance they gave 100% and on another day would have nicked it against a gd peterborough team. clear peno not allowed and also the disallowed goal looked soft. great goal from charlie though (Y)

why does kay get a rating of 4. he wasnt his usual self but he was still one of the best on the pitch he was solid in defence.

He was shocking. He's over-rated by people cause he's captain and he's scored goals for us. Like Greenacre he has a bad game and doesn't get the same stick other people, like Sonko would.

Sonko at least looks as if he is trying,Moore has done sod all the last 2 games at home,Savage is a waste of space, the goal was disallowed because Edds was holding a defender, but they should have been down to 10 men, their No.2 took a player out after having been booked,he should have known better than to do that after being booked, but the ref chickened out, their goal was a piece of luck for them, but at least we never gave up,but why did RM not take off his son who was doing nothing?Sonko was everywhere, just before he was subbed he had helped out the defence, also we should have had a penalty near the end for handball, for me it was Ronnie's tactics & the ref's ineptitude that cost us the game

I also thought Sonko was poor as was Savage and Anthony Kay. If you actually watch Peterborough's goal again, it was Kay who pushed up trying to be Mr do it all that left the gap for McCail-Smith to get into. He did it all night leaving Shotton to come inside to cover and gaps on the right. There was absolutely no need for him to do it as that is jennings job which he did well all night.
i know Kay has played well this season but to be honest, i would rather have jennings and barnett in there which leaves Jennings to perform the duty he is best at.
I believe that the only way were going to get out of this league or stand a chance of getting to the play offs is to play 442 and drop Savage for Moore and Gornell. I also think when Taylor is fit, he should put Cresswell down the left as he can be a threat in that position.
Speaking of which, I thought that despite his lack of first team experience, he handled McCail-Smith pretty well tonight when he had to.
I don't want to even get started on the ref because i would be here all night.
