Ronnie: Post-Match Oldham

Ronnie Moore was delighted as his Rovers side kept up with the play-off positions, and effectively put an end to Oldhams hopes after the 0-2 away win at Boundary Park this afternoon. After the doom and gloom of the mid-week loss away to Cheltenham, two second half goals; a stunning volley from Charlie Barnett and a penalty from Ian Moore, re-stored the hopes for Rovers play-off push.

In a play-off race clash, it was Rovers' who came out on top with a much-needed victory away from home. Oldham were reduced to 10 men when Stefan Stam was sent off for his second bookable offence when he brought down midfielder Steven Jennings, conceeding a penalty in the process.

Ronnie Moore told Tranmere World...

"I think we deserved it. The first half, I thought 'here we go again'. We'd had chances, missed them and came in at 0-0. But give them credit, it was a great finish from Charlie, and then I felt maybe it was going to be our day.

"Jenno has been magnificent today, he headed things, kicked things, and it was a great run [that led to the penalty]. We needed a cushion, and the bonus was Stam being sent off which helped us a bit. Ian showed some guts, wanted to take the penalty and put it in the back of the net.  

"It has been long overdue, my record against Oldham hasn't been good. I did enjoy it to be fair. I knew the lads knew how important the game was and it's put us in with a shout. Someone has to go to Wembley, and why not us?

"You're always worried when there's a new manager, especially with the Joe Royle thing. There was a hype before the game, reminiscing about 1991, but we are in 2009 now. It's what you do now and not what you've done in the past and one or two people need to think about that.

"I wish Joe all the best but it was vital today that we came here and spoiled the party.

Moore also praised his fans who were singing for virtually the whole of the second half;

"Our fans were quality and really got behind us. We missed one or two things in the first half but they stayed with us."
