Kay and Barnett Honoured by Fans Awards

At last night’s Player of the Season Dinner at Prenton Park, Antony Kay and Charlie Barnett scooped the top fans awards as they were voted Player of the Season and Young Player of the Season respectively on another great night of laughter and entertainment.
With Rovers' biggest game for a number of years fast approaching on Saturday as they travel to Scunthorpe United in search of a play-off place, last night gave the players and the supporters a chance to come together in a social capacity at the annual Player of the Season Awards Dinner in the Prentonian Suite at Prenton Park.
The event was a sell-out and as fans and players gathered in Aldo's for the pre-dinner reception they were able to have photographs taken with whichever players they wanted and later take the photos home free of charge and signed if they could grab the relevant player for a signature during the evening.
A chat with Ryan Shotton revealed that he has a crack in the bone on his hand after falling awkwardly on Saturday in the game against Yeovil but will be able to play in Saturday's crunch game, although throw-ins will be out of the question for the defender in that game.
Almost bang on time we moved through from Aldo's to the Prentonian Suite where our starter (melon again - making it a melon hat-trick in the dinners I've been too!) was served and ready to eat. In addition to the food on the tables there was also a picture quiz which featured twelve pictures of Rovers Players when they were young and we had to guess who was who.

Obvious ones included Gareth Edds, Ian Moore, Ben Chorley and Bas Savage but there several which we didn't get on our table until the answers were revealed later.
During dinner, the 2-0 home win over Leicester City from a few months ago was shown on TV screens around the room whilst in between courses, Derek Jones of Radio Merseyside kept us updated as pairs of fans took on pairs of players in table football matches.
The pairing of fans that scored the most goals in each two minute game won a prize at the end of the night with Ronnie Moore and Peter Shirtliff teaming up at one point and coming out as winners in their game!
After a main course of Lamb and a dessert of Lemon Tart it was onto the start of the awards themselves beginning with the longest introduction to an award announcement ever as Les Parry took to the stage to announce his Les Parry Award for the most crocked player of the season.

After a twenty minute talk from Les which, as ever was hilarious as he took the mick out of almost everyone in the squad, the award winner was....

Jenno admitted he was ‘choked and surprised' to win the award from his team-mates whilst a shy Aaron Cresswell just kept saying ‘I'm Happy!' when interviewed by Derek Jones on receiving his award.
This was followed by the award for Goal of the Season and as was the case last year, by the wonders of modern technology, we were treated to the five main nominees for the award on the TV screens which were Ian Moore Vs Leeds (H), Ian Moore Vs Scunthorpe (A), Ryan Shotton v Colchester (H), Bas Savage Vs Huddersfield (H) and another home goal scored by Ian Moore with the following result....

So finally it was onto the Awards voted for by the fans and with nominations for Young Player of the Season being Aaron Cresswell, Charlie Barnett, Ryan Shotton, Andy Taylor and Terry Gornell and the nominations for Player of the Season being Ben Chorley, Steve Jennings, Antony Kay, Ian Moore and Ian Goodison, the outcomes of both awards were.....

The Awards were followed by a Comedian hailing from Manchester whose one-liners, a lot of them crude but all of them funny, had everyone in the room in stitches, particularly those jokes he made about Rock Ferry!!

The night ended with the Raffle for which prizes included Ian Moore's signed shirt from his return debut against Leeds United away last season when Rovers won 2-0, a signed Gold Away Shirt, a signed football in a display case and the table football table from the night signed by the Players.
I certainly had a great night yet again and will not hesitate to go again next year as we finished with a round of applause to wish the Players good luck for Saturday!

i think chorley but i certainly wouldn't deny Kay it! we'd have finished like 15th without his goals
also the fact that him, chorley & jennings shows hoe well those 3 have played.
My vote was Chorley and next would have been Jenno and then Moore!
Goodison would have been my nxt man for the award the man is a genius!
kay has been quieter in recent weeks though to say he hasn't been to good this season is a bit harsh.. while jenno covers alot of grass he just does not have the ability or vision to play the balls that kay sometimes picks out! they both compliment each other quite well to be honest but since jenno has had respiratory problems he's not made as big an impact on games either
