Tranmere Rovers manager Ronnie Moore sacked after three years in charge
Tranmere Rovers have today sacked manager Ronnie Moore after three years service at the club, an official statement from the club says today.
A move that has come completely out of the blue, Tranmere Rovers have, as yet, given no reason for the dismissal of Moore, who last season guided Tranmere to a 7th place finish in League One, as they ended the season just two points and one place behind Scunthorpe United, who took the final play-off place.
Moore was a successfull player and coach at Prenton Park before moving away to manager Southport, Rotherham and Oldham in the 1990s and 2000s.
After being sacked by Oldham in 2006, Moore joined Tranmere on an initial two year contract, which was extended by a further two years in June 2008, replacing Brian Little in the Rovers hot seat.
However, Moore has today had his contract stunningly and shockingly ended by the Tranmere board, with no official reason given, as yet, for his removal.
A Tranmere fan at heart, Moore, famous for guiding Rotherham to two successive promotions as well for his excellent goalscoring ability as a player, managed Tranmere in 158 games, picking up 65 wins to go with 55 defeats and 38 draws.
Total Tranmere would like to thank Ronnie Moore for we many percieve to be an excellent job he did as Tranmere manager in difficult circumstances, especially finances wise, and wish him all the best for the future.
If there is any more news, Total Tranmere will bring it to you straight away.

why has he gone tho the fans desierve a better excuse than its time for the club to move forward a new manager is garenteed that if he doesnt get the right funds
i have already heard steve coppel an paul inces name for the job but they will both need funds for players copel bin at reading had the funds ince bin at mk dons, blackburn and had funds we dont have the funds wayne allison or some proborbly get it lol
a thought someone said on here that he signed a one year extension
This is a terrible mistake by Johnson i am discusted with this sacking of Ronnie he had been brill for us,commited nearly got us promotion, bought some great players on a shoe string budget,If Barnes comes in thats me off for good and no way would i have re newed my season ticket and still feel like asking for my money back. This is the end of Tranmere Rovers for me with these stupid decissions made upstairs.I am in a state of shock honest i love this club so much.If Coppel or Aldo came back then maybe and only maybe i will be happy but cant see that happening. The only thing i can think of is Ronnie has spoke out what he wants and the board cant give it him.We should have a day of protest at the club discusted upset and fed up.
Good luck Ronnie you will get a club no probs and one day you maybe back when its right thanks for your efforts
well one thing for sure whats going on at the club is MADNESS thats for sure in the staement it blames the drop in supporters surely thats not ronnies fault.Recesssion ring a bell am still in shock
Absolutely gutted!
I really thought with a few decent signings which there were rumours of, we had a very good chance of being a strong team and I personally wanted that team led by Mr.Moore.
Peter Johnson once again lets all of the fans down.
This is weird and we deserve to know whats going on
Absolutely unbelievable! To take us to 2 mins to the play-offs with such limited resources, make canny loan signings and to have the hearfelt support of most of the fans is an indication of his managerial strength. The reason for his sacking given, that numbers had fallen by 13% or so, is just a sop...something behind the scenes has prompted this bizarre decision and it stinks!
How do you know he had let you down thats stupid. Say if he is about to give the club money. And we bring in people who can bring big names. Wait and see before you post comments like that then we can judge him

There is no reason to suppose that he will put money into the club when lack of funds means that we are losing our best players.PJs own fortune has dropped like a stone and there is far more reason to thing he he is preparing to sell of assets to reclaim his loan.
As for barnes what qualification or experience equips him for managing at this level. We need someone who knows how to manage on a shoestring and who has a network of links at this level of football.R.M was not the complete manager but he was better equipped than most for this level.I suspect that he was not prepared to go along with PJs plans and hence was pushed out. Many have worried that one day PJ loan would sink this club.Is this the beginning of the end.I really do hope I am being alarmist but this club needs stability and sacking Moore does not look like a football decision!
The best managers are the ones given time. Fergie was supposedly one game from being sacked. If we'd been going backwards then fair enough but we seemed to be showing some promise.
Before we jump on PJ, we need to see who he appoints and the investment he puts into the playing staff for next season. Ronnie has undoubtably done a good job over the last 3 years on a tight budget, but we haven't really moved forward that much and some of the football hasn't been great (can't help the crowd situation).Heres hoping we get a high profile 'proven' manager and some decent players who play the right way!
Okay, perhaps I am a bit quick to slate PJ but if he is investing then why are we struggling to keep hold of our top players.
Also why sack Ronnie if he is investing does he not trust Ronnie with his money...
Afraid PJ has done himself no favours here.. he was hated by so many fans in the 90's.... he's been he about a week and already this has happened. This is not a way to boost attendances by p1ss1ing the fans off? the whole thing stinks and i think we have every right to point the finger at PJ and vent our anger... If he has plans that can better last season then thats fine but until they come out and fully explain why they done this (the truth) and where he hopes to go with the club then im afraid he is going to get abuse...
giving authority to a manager to buy players on 2 yr deals!!! and interview people just to sack him later on....
I'm thinkin Alott jumped ship before oldham sunk...and landed in a fkin submarine!
Falling gates I heard. From 8,200 to 5000 is a huge loss.
However, no money, even less than clubs seemingly with next to nothing, and what can you expect?
Small wonder people are walking away from the club, from would be supporters to others like Shirtliff.
Guys, i'm not being picky an i understand you have to allow your sources to remain annonymous, but in a time where everyone is calling for transparency at club level, maybe you (Mike or Mikey) could perhaps shed some light on where you heard the John Barnes confirmation, where you heard Ronnie say that "Tranmere @#$%& it up" etc. No need to name sources or anything, just a little more info on the topic would really help me, and i assume most others, get there head around this, the most baffling and worrying situation i have had as a Rovers fan since the Chester merger rumours.
Ronnie's comments came from Ronnie himself as Matt and Mikey spoke to him at Prenton Park yesterday.
As for the Barnes thing it's been posted on another site by someone who is a regualr poster and is very rarely wrong plus there are other very reliable people who have passed on the same info.
I'm now starting to doubt that it's 100% gonna be Barnes as Manager but the sources are reliable beleive me.
a heard ronnie had said it but i was speaking to someone at the club last night i said is it true he said its not gona happen he might be wrong people hear fings unles we hear from pj himself we carnt belive it ronnie very liable source but pj may have said were in talks with barnes to ronnie or sum like barnes we could be reading to much into it

Cheers Mike, that clears a lot up for me. Since the Ronnie Moore statement came from the horses mouth as it were, seems as though he senses that this isn't a normal performance related sacking.
apparently there is going to be a protest at pp, on the 7th of june at 12 noon, sky sports news gonna be there. Protest to keep john barnes and Mcteer away from the club !!
trfc4life apparently there is going to be a protest at pp, on the 7th of june at 12 noon, sky sports news gonna be there. Protest to keep john barnes and Mcteer away from the club !!
The "protest" will buy same the bunch of morons that chanted for Ronnie after we lost 3-1 at home to Millwall, sang "theres only one Charlie Barnett" to Cresswell and arrive at away matches at 12;00 drunk off their faces.
major generalisations going on here lads i gotta say..
If the whole sacking thing came about regarding dissapointing attendances I'm guessing PJ isn't fearing too big a turn out for this.. even if it is free
we couldnt get a protest for @#$%& all half are fans are just wanna be green streets there all talk no action they couldnt organise a @#$%& up in a burry they aint got enough brain cells between them

i got told that on friday night there was a function at tranmere were mcateers dads mate was at he said barnes macateer are joint manger and fowler first player signing dont know how much truth is in it but thats what he said
I could honestly see that fowler thing being true now that Mcateer and Barnes are in there, and if we could keep him fit and get him the service, what a signing!
Well I've heard he's moving his family over there. He would command a fee if he has time on his contract. There would be favouritism issues if he came and I wouldn't want him playing if he had the rumoured financial interes in the club.
owner always does in a way look at chealsea owner posibly picked the team but maybe it could be a good thing he may have club and progression of it in his own intrest
"Barnes took over as manager of the Jamaican national team on 01/11/2008 and as of 11/06/2009 is set to be anounced as manager of English League1 side Tranmere Rovers FC"
I know that anyone can edit an article on wikipedia but...
BARNES AN MACCA R DEFO TAKIN OVER I AM NT SURE ABOUT FOWLER AN MCMANAMAN DONT KNOW WERS USE HEARD THAT MAYB THEY WILL JUST INVESTIN IN TRANMERE SURELY FOWLER WUDNT MOVE AWAY FROM THE SON WUD HE I SAY WE GET A ARAB IN AN GET PJ OUT HE IS @#$%& AN DOESNT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOIN HE SED CUZ OF ATTENDENCE THATS WHY RM GT THE SACK HE CANT HELP THAT WE HAD THE BEST HOME RECORD IN THE LEAGUE he done is job and we cant go further with the money we have and makin a new boss isnt goin 2 drag the fans in cuz thier all everton an liverpool supporters and thats how it will always be if we dont go up
Thank goodness for a readable post.
i wonder just how much interest fans take in the affairs of the club?
PJ wanted his money back which the club owed him.
i do not know what the arangements were previously in terms of any interst paid to him...if any.. but the interest to a bank will be massive, hence not a penny to spend.
No bank is going to lend millions to TRanmere , so to get the bank loan to repay PJ his money, PJ had to underwrite the loan;ie, he guaranteed payment and were the club to fail, they would get it from him.
Hence the total lack of funds and his continued presence to ensure the interest is paid.
Moore said that it would be a very young side this term and he needed the oLdham man. i suspect that a very young side meant our youth and on loan youth.
Some prospects in the league with that.
in saying you want out and regret buying a season ticket, you only echo what has been said by generatiuons from pre-war to date.
On promotion to the then second division, the gates were 9,000. owing perhaps to KIng not spending a penny tobring in the better players needed, the gate remained at 9,000.
Consider then the folly, on such gates, of paying £250,000
for Aldo. cOnsider the wages for him and the likes of Nevin. consider the fee of £450,000 for Teale from Villa. Total madness.
THe ground is club owned and in the past people have said Tranmere were a rich club owing to that, and in the late 40'2 early 50's, £5000 was paid for a player, the board bent on keeping the club in the black.
Up the creek now well and truly thanks to PJ and his past sidekick.
