Midfielder Charlie Barnett today signed a new one-year contract which will keep him at Prenton Park until next summer, adding to the ever-growing list of midfield players who are currently part of Manager John Barnes’s squad for the forthcoming 2009/10 League One campaign.
Exactly a year to the day after signing for Tranmere from Liverpool on a twelve month contract last summer, midfielder Charlie Barnett today signed another one-year deal which will keep him at the Club until June 2010.
Barnett had been a doubt with regard to whether or not he would stay at the Club for another season, especially after the recent summer influx of new players capable of playing in midfield including Mark Allott, Alan Mahon, Paul McLaren and John Welsh.
The fact that Charlie has signed on leaves Rovers Manager John Barnes with a wealth of midfield options for next season although the defence remains a concern as does the goalkeeping position with no Keeper currently on Rovers books apart from youngster Joe Collister.

Barnett played 33 games and scored three goals for Rovers last season after coming up through the youth ranks at Liverpool and towards the end of the season became a key part of the squad that almost made it to the end of season play-offs.
Rovers Manager John Barnes told Tranmere World earlier.....
"Charlie is a talented young midfielder and I'm delighted he will be in my squad this season. He has good technique, is willing to learn and I've been pleased with his work in pre-season."
Charlie Barnett himself added...
"I really enjoyed my first year at Tranmere so I'm pleased to have signed a new contract. With the new Manager and the signings he has already made hopefully we can do even better than last season."

Sky haven't got much wrong so far so yeah it's great news indeed.
Only a year though so have to go through all this again next season although we will be in the Championship by then so it will be easier to tempt him!!
We really do have an immense midfield now. I would play charlie right mid thinking about it, ahead of shuker, put mahon left mid and allot/welsh/mclaren for centre midifield.
it appeared Mahon was generally out left vs Preston though i feel his better balls on the day were when he come central played the through balls. so if i was the gaffer id stick Mahon in the middle with Mclaren who i was made up to see again he's so reassuring in the middle and doesn't often give the ball away. Barnett has pace out wide and his far post cross within minutes of coming on back my shout up
