Midfielder Mark Allott, who was signed by former Rovers Boss Ronnie Moore before he was sacked by Rovers earlier in the summer, has today re-joined his former Manager John Sheridan at his former club Chesterfield from League Two.

Tranmere midfielder Mark Allott has today left Rovers to sign for his former Club Chesterfield of League Two without having played a competitive game for the Superwhites since he was signed by former Rovers Manager Ronnie Moore in June just before Moore was sacked as Manager.

Allott teams up at the Spireites with his former Manager from Oldham Athletic, John Sheridan having previously made 223 appearances for Chesterfield either side of being at Boundary Park, firstly as a trainee and then more recently after moving from Chesterfield in 2007.

Following the signing by new Rovers Boss John Barnes of midfielders Alan Mahon, Paul McLaren and John Welsh as well as those already at the Club in the shape of Chris Shuker, Ryan Fraughan, Gareth Edds and Allott himself, the competition for midfield places at Prenton Park was beginning to look difficult indeed and it seems unsurprising that the only signing made by Ronnie Moore has already departed.

Manager John Barnes said...

"Mark has been a pleasure to work with in my time at Tranmere.  However, the opportunity for him to work with his former manager John Sheridan arose along with first team football - something I couldn't guarantee at Tranmere - so we have allowed him to move to Chesterfield."

"I'd like to wish him the best of luck for the rest of his career."

Allott did appear in a couple of friendly games for Rovers this pre-season but his future now lies in Chesterfield and Total Tranmere would like to wish Mark all the best in his career.

Shame, but we have got better mids and now it leaves us with a little bit towards a loan signing or maybe a permanent signing for the defence

Hadn't seen much of him in pre-season (Lairds, Preston and Southport) but I have to say I wasn't too impressed with what I saw anyway and if it frees us up to sign another player (preferably a defender) then all the better.

Good Luck to Allott though and I hear he was quite popular at Chesterfield.

im not too bothered about this, we have plenty of midfielders and not enough defenders to Barnes has made his priorities. i could have seen him being another ahmed character, a centre midfield who never got a look in and got paid for sitting on the bench.
