Rovers Fanzine ‘Give Us An R’ is Back for 2009/10

The first edition for this season of the excellent Rovers Fanzine ‘Give Us an R’ went on sale yesterday ahead of the pre-season friendly at home to Shrewsbury Town and once again we at Total Tranmere bring you a quick look at the content of this current issue – something you won’t find anywhere else on the Rovers Web.

Saturday's home friendly against Shrewsbury Town saw the launch of the latest issue of the Tranmere  Rovers Fanzine ‘Give Us an R' (the first of this 2009/10 season) and once again it makes for an interesting read, particularly in the light of all the goings on at the Club in what has been the most bizarre and eventful summer in a long time.

Issue 55 (August/September 2009) features a front page image of returning midfielder Paul McLaren which was taken during the pre-season friendly against Preston North End and the reading opens with the Editor's thoughts on the events of the closed-season including the appointment of John Barnes and Jason McAteer.

Later on in this edition, the same events of the summer are also analysed with differing styles by regular contributors The Paddock Man and Total Tranmere's very own Deadly Submarine which ensures three different viewpoints on everything that has gone on at Prenton Park since that gutting day in Scunthorpe back in May.

Featured away trips discussed in this issue from the end of last season are the games at Walsall, Leeds Utd and Scunthorpe Utd whilst there is also a middle page photo spread of the highs and lows from that season ending trip to Glanford Park.

Other regular features which make a return to the Mag for the new season include the Football Grounds ‘Anorak' Quiz and the ‘You Don't Have to Be Mad But it Helps' Fan Interview section which for this issue features a 35 year old gardener from Oxton.

The Cover of the Latest Issue of GUAR

There of a couple of features surrounding our arch-enemies from the ‘Breeze Block' (Reebok) Stadium including a witty piece about Bolton and Swine Flu and also one about Wanderers Chairman Phil Gartside's ridiculous ideas for a Premier League 2.

An interesting piece of the now departed Chris Greenacre and his new side Wellington Phoenix and a lengthy piece on Rovers second successive Mersey Masters win finish off this issue well along with a look at a recent feature in the football mag ‘When Saturday Comes' which was a photo guide to Rovers devastating day out at Scunthorpe.

The final page features a full colour picture of one of Rovers Mersey Masters heroes Ged Brannan during his Rovers playing days.

At just £2.00 the fanzine remains, in our opinion, a great value for money purchase and a must for those Rovers fans interested in the views of other fans which may not always we seen in the modern world of internet forums.

Dave Goat sells the Fanzine at virtually all Rovers games.  At home games he can be found lurking on the gravel area underneath the Board which tells of the next fixtures at Prenton Park (on the opposite side of the Car Park Entrance to the Mersey Clipper Pub) whilst at away games he can be found lurking outside the away turnstiles prior to kcik-off so make sure you pick up your copy of Issue 55 - you won't regret in our opinion!
