Weather Report

A warm and dry evening for the match although as the final whistle approached there was a slight chill in the air for more than one reason as Rovers fell to a late goal from the visitors.

Crowd

5,744 fans were inside Prenton Park for this game which a couple of hundred more than the amount that made the Gillingham game on Saturday although the obvious reason for that was a slightly larger attendance from the visiting team.

Referee Watch

Jonathan Moss (West Yorkshire) - Yet another referee who had a decent game bar missing a couple of handballs from both sides which he seemed happy to let go.   Deservedly booked Ibhere after four offences within minutes of coming on the pitch.

Best Moment

Rovers had a number of chances and hit the bar on two occasions.  The first half saw yet more decent football from Rovers and indeed from their visitors but the second half was a different story.

Worst Moment

The goal for the Dons looked inevitable once Goodison went off injured but it was still harsh on a Rovers side that deserved a draw and surely the defending for the goal could have been better too.

Tranmere Man of the Match

Gavin Gunning - Despite carrying a second half injury, Gunning was once again solid at the back alongside Ian Goodison who played OK until he himself left the field injured.

Connections

Former Dons player Gareth Edds made a substitute appearance for Rovers but unlike Saturday's game, he couldn't make a great impact as Rovers lost the game late on.

Rovers Fans

Loud in the Kop again at times tonight and a few chants encouraging Barnes to wave was a good sign.  Some may argue that the boos at the end were a little harsh but after a defeat it is to be expected.

MK Dons Fans

The Dons fans were slightly more in number than those from Gillingham on Saturday and like their southern counterparts made themselves heard during the game and were sadly (from Rovers point of view) rewarded for their efforts late on.

Summary

Many will see this defeat in a much more negative light but with Moore and Goodison both leaving the field injured, the lack of depth in the squad showed as we suddenly looked unlikely to score and the already under pressure defence finally gave way.  Leeds Utd away on Saturday will now be very interesting for sure.

Entertainment Value

At times the game was superb to watch with both sets of players playing good passing football.  The second half however was a different story as the ballspent much more time in the air although it did produce two of Rovers best chances.
