Barnes Banter: Post-Match Bolton

John Barnes was much happier with his Tranmere team's performance as he spoke to Tranmere Player on Tuesday evening, despite going out of the Carling Cup at the second round having been beaten 0-1 by rivals Bolton.
After an appauling display at Elland Road last Saturday, John Barnes was much happier with the performance of his Tranmere side on Tuesday evening, despite losing to rivals Bolton 0-1. The loss means Rovers' go out of the Carling Cup at the second round.
Barnes told the Official Tranmere Rovers Website...
"We gave Bolton a difficult game tonight and after the performance at Leeds we had to. I wasn't just pleased with the way we played tonight I was also pleased with the attitude, the desire and the commitment. They were the qualities we didn't see at Leeds. We were second to everything at Elland Road and that was unacceptable.
"It was a million miles better tonight. They really did put in a shift against a strong Bolton side.We all know that Bolton are strong, physical and you have to stand up to them. We did that.
"We still have to work on quality because once again we gave the ball away when the opposition scored and we didn't create as much in the final third as we needed to."
"The defenders did well, the midfield worked hard to protect them than they did at Leeds. As a result it was a better all round defensive display."
