Millwall v Tranmere Rovers - Match Discussion Thread

By Total Tranmere
October 2 2009

Throughout the season we will provide you with a platform to discuss each and every Rovers match whether it be the build-up to kick-off or post match analysis so here we bring you the Match Discussion Thread for Saturday afternoon's Coca Cola League One match away at Millwall........

Article Header - Match Discussion

Millwall v Tranmere

Kick-Off 3.00pm at The New Den

For those fans who can't make some of the Rovers games this season, particularly the high number of costly and time consuming southern away games, we at Total Tranmere will be providing a Match Discussion Thread on the Site for every Rovers game.

The thread will allow you to discuss everything from the pre-match build up and starting line-up to the game it as it progresses and the post-match anaylsis.

Stadium - Millwall

Where possible, Total Tranmere staff will post up the starting line-up and substitutes on the thread as soon as it is made known at the game.

Tranmere travel to Millwall on Saturday in Coca Cola League One, so if you're not going to the game, why not join in the banter right here while the game is going on.

Maybe if you have a friend or family member texting you from the game you can post their views here for others to see as the game progresses.

You could also use this thread to discuss other interesting scores in Coca-Cola League One as well as discussing this game afterwards if you have been along to the game.

What you discuss below is up to you but hopefully it can all be focused on one thread to make it easier for everyone to use.

4-0 down after half an hour = john barnes is a good manager

it could get worse listening to the radio it is terrible, hes got to go he cannot organise the team. 25 goals conceded so far is a joke

At three down in two shakes i give up. Seems like it's not who you sign in defense, nobody understands what defense is.
Watched a bit of Preston V West Brom . an attacker on left wing..two blokes there to get past. Similar situation with Tranmere and the full back is left for dead and nobody to stop the rot.
'You've got to stop the opposition playing, never mind the passing' words from a good manager .
No radio, telly shut down before it gets to 5 plus.
I have to concede that bottom spot is Tranmere's with goals against 100+

This is an absolute disgrace. To be 4-0 down after half an hour is pathetic. Barnes is not a manager, we are a laughing stock to the country. Johnson you have to sack him, fans have paid good money to get down there.

This is just soul destorying, seeing my team at the bottom of the league and getting battered, with the worst defensive record in England. Barnes and Mcateer OUT!!

oh well .. if you are going to lose do it properly.

The wycombe win has probably kept his job for a week. Worst Tranmere defence ever? and I'd include Daniels in that, looked below average every time I've seen him and sounds like the first was on him.

Pretty much the same defence has been tonked about 4 times now. Drop 'em all. Next game ..

LB - that new lb we signed
CB - Taylor
CB - emergency loan (surely this counts as emergancy)
RB - Edds

no subs -

I dont care how we do in 2nd half (well ok barring a 4-4) I don't believe in the you got us into this mess .. get us out of it , he should of made a triple substitution out of principle.

When the 4th went in I would of taken as many off as I was allowed.

The Players MUST take equal share of the blame. The goals we have conceded were horrific and the MAnagement can only do so much.

If we started the first half like we have the second we'd be unlucky to be behind but too little too late after the first half horror show.

Good news is Broomes off so he'll be suspended, that's one out of the way.

Just need Daniels, Goodison and Cresswell to pick up knocks and Logan to play in midfeild and we might have a defence next week.

mike h our midfield did nothing to help the defence so when you have 5or6 players attacking were was the midfield certainly not tracking the runners coming from and through there posistions yes i agree to some poor defending but midfield are the ones at blame

I agree fully. Everytime I see them the CM look the weak point and its crazy its the only position which hasn't really had any turnover during the season.

Having said that just because other players are weak doesn't excuse everyone else.

Taking the back 5 purely from the games I've seen:

Daniels - I Just don't get him, admittedly I don't go to the away games/friendlies and appartently he played well in the first few of them. Maybe I've only caught him at his worst but he's looked (another) weak link when I've seen him.

Goodison - Had a shocker of a season not much else to say. Hopefully he'll bounce back.

Cresswell - Been dissapointing, not noticeably bad or anything just very average. Having his first season in this defence aint helping.

Logan - Better going forward, should play on the wing as he's better than the ones we've got there and he gets caught out of position.

Broomes - seemed okay I guess but very beatable.

assume you mean CM, I'd do that myself or maybe Edds and Mahon there.

Only problem is I'd probably have Edds RB and Logan RM which would scupper that.

Listened to the game today after being full of optimism after the away win at wycombe, 9 minutes in an normal service resumed gettin humped. If you look at tranmeres team there is some quality there. we can all speculate as to whos crap, whos this, whos that some valid points are raised here an mine is i wish we had a team of Gareth Edds. If u could give every player in the side some of his attitude an desire we would be a top 4 side. Ok hes not gifted with any outstanding attributes but he works his @#$%& off, looks like he wants to play even after the game the guy makes sure he applauds all sides of the ground. Drop welsh an play Edds CM, the ball by passes welsh by all to often nor does he work hard enough for a pressumed "water carrier". To accomadate a player like mclaren the other CM needs to graft an we all can see Edds grats as soon as he crosses the white line. but lets just see what happens hey

i totally agree on eddsy, always gives 110% wherever we play him, with the midfield consistently the worst area he must get a chance!!!!!!

The bottom line here is simple.

Barnes cannot motivate the players, his tactics are naive, his signings are not up to the job and he never accepts responsibility for his mistakes and just blames everyone else (including 17 year olds!!!).

For that reason I have to say, Barnes Out (and take McAteer with you)!!!

We have a squad that would struggle in the conference. It is easy to see us freefall through the divisions.Yes Barnes is inadequate but PJ sett the unrealistically low wages level(in the interests of his needs and not the clubs) and it was he who created the current mess by firing Moore and making an appointment that most expected to turn out this way.We face a crisis yet he has been so silent that I think we now have Dumb,Dumber, and Dumbest.
Who can blame those giving up on the club with this triumvirate
