Bain Scores Brace as Reserves Thrash Stanley

Kithson Bain scored twice this evening as Rovers’ Reserve side thrashed bottom of the League Accrington Stanley 5-1 at Cammell Laird’s Kirklands Stadium on a cold night with other goals coming from Seb Carole, Terry Gornell and Dale Jennings after the visitors had taken an early lead.

It was a successful night for Tranmere's second string at Kirklands on Tuesday night as they came from a goal behind early on to eventually beat the League's bottom team 5-1 with a hard fought performance.

Rovers started brightly and could have been ahead after just five minutes when a superb cross by Carole was just missed at the far post by Kithson Bain and just a minute later Alex Pursehouse did well to create a chance for a cross down the right but there was no-one to meet his ball into the penalty area.
Somewhat against the run of the play the visitors took the lead on 15 minutes when the striker was allowed a shot from just inside the penalty area which he fired into the bottom left corner of the goal to leave Rovers stunned.
However the goal seemed to serve as a wake up call for Shaun Garnett's side and shortly after conceding, Ryan Fraughan headed over from a corner before Rovers equalised in the 22nd minute when Fraughan's cross was finished well by Seb Carole.
Kithson Bain Netted Rovers' Second Goal
Just three minutes after drawing level, the home side found themselves in the lead when Carole turned provider and his pinpoint cross was drilled into the ground and up into the goal by Kithson Bain who to quote Rovers caretaker Boss Les Parry "killed about 4,000 earthworms" in the process of scoring.
After Terry Gornell's excellent turn and run had resulted in a foul on him on the edge of the penalty area, captain Aaron Cresswell's resulting free-kick was saved by Matthew Ince in the Stanley goal to keep the score at 2-1.
A slip in the penalty area from Cresswell just before half-time allowed Stanley a clear shooting opportunity but the ball sailed over Joe Collister's crossbar and shortly afterwards Cresswell himself had a shot saved as the half ended 2-1 to Rovers.

The opening 15 minutes of the second half were a quiet affair but Rovers had a decent opportunity when a long ball forward was misjudged by Ince and almost bounced over him but luckily for him he got a touch on it to tip it out for a Rovers corner which came to nothing.
In the 62nd minute Rovers increased their lead to two goals when a long goal kick from Joe Collister set Terry Gornell away to slot home and virtually kill off any hopes the visitors had of a comeback in the game.

Five minutes after scoring that goal, Gornell's evening was over as he was replaced by Dale Jennings and the youngster made an immediate impact as he headed over from a corner after Seb Carole had had his shot tipped over the crossbar by Ince.
In the 75th minute though and just eight minutes after coming on, Dale Jennings netted a fourth for Rovers as he rounded Ince and slotted home before Kithson Bain shot wide just a few minutes later.
With just four minutes remaining though Kithson Bain did get his second goal with a great finish after running clear on the left to make it 5-1 and right on full-time Jennings could have made it 6-1 when he had a shot well saved by the goalkeeper and then fired the rebound over the crossbar.

Both of the centre-backs performed well in this match but Ashcroft was the heart of it all and since moving from a striking role to defence he has slotted into the role superbly. Credit must also go to Terry Gornell upfront and the wingers Ryan Fraughan and Seb Carole who had great games too but a deserved Man of the Match award for Jay.

enjoyed the game, interesting pic of Bain ! he has trimmed down some from then, early season, thought he had a good game, took his second well after great work from Dale who impressed again. Seb looked the part too on the wing, but did drift inside quite a bit where he'd played v Wxham, and didn't look as effective. thought we lacked a bit of grit in the middle, may have suited Tom Baker, but at the expence of who ? seen Max and Fraughny play together, and there are a lot of similarities, both very cultured footballers, but at the expence of some fight, not that it was exploited, I'd expected a harder game with Stanley doing well in recent games, I expected more to be trying to impress, agree hard to pick MOM, Jay a good shout tho, another solid game at the back and once again showing signs that he has a great eye for the long ball up to feet, and the ability to produce.
so an excellent game, and a fair few there to watch
