Tranmere and Wolves Set for Sunday Night Date

As you probably know by now, tranmere vs wolves will be shown live on the fa cup website.

this means the game is now on sunday 3rd januray, 6.15pm ko

and rovers will receieve £72,000 from the fa for it!

Not so sure myself as it's bound to decrease the attendance too.

Be good to get the publicity and the TV money though so I suppose we can't complain.

the money is good and much needed it may have some effect on the gate but cant see being that many there anyway as its a cat a game, wud think bout 8000 unless we give them the kop which dont think is going to happen.

I don't see Wolves fans turning out given the big spending holidays and a chance to save on admission and travel?
Cup games have not brought in the gates hey used to.
I think £72,000 is meagre.

My Mates a Wolves fan, and they sell out their away allocation each week.

(1) Give Wolves the KOP - they will fill it.
(2) Get our noisy fans in the cowsheds
(3) Get the stadium as full as possible

and (4) Create a good atmosphere in the ground and maximise revenue.

These are my views and I think they make financial sense.

Giving the biggest stand to away fans is always a bad move.

At the end of the day, we're desperate for money and in my opinion this game being moved to a Sunday night will make no difference to the potential attendance or performance by Tranmere. Sunday evening, Saturday afternoon, Monday at midnight, whatever, it'll be the same team and I still think we can produce an upset.

We should be glad of the money definitely but how anyone can say this won't affect the attendance I don't know.

72K is nothing in the grand scheme of things

It is still a big game against Premiership opposition,a lot of people will go for the atmosphere,a chance to create a good atmosphere,with a full Kop,& plenty of time to recover from the Saturday night,who can resist?

Why will it make a difference to the attendance? Wolves will still bring a good 2,000 whilst we'll still get our usual 5,000 plus maybe a few more.

As I felt at the begining being in the FA Cup is a waste of time. Any money generated, which won't be much, will be spent by PJ to pay off debys, it won't be reinvested in the team.
Th cup is an unnecessary side=show for us.
We should be copmletely focused on staying in the division and the break from football would have been welcome for us.
The big picture is we will lose far far more by going down then what we generate in a couple of cup games no matter who we play. Now till the end of the season we must only focus on the league.

What's to say we won't win, generating even more income and then Johnson giving Parry the money to bring in a player, be it on loan or a permenant deal?

Eric, if PJ uses the money from the Cup to pay off debts then surely that is a benefit?

Otherwise what money would we use to pay off debts instead?

As for the attendance, I can see it being more than the usual League game but won't be much than 6500-7000.

With it being a Catergory A game too I do believe we would have had more people willing to attend than we will now it's being steamed live and free online.

As said above though 72k cannot just be dismissed and is a good thing.

Sadly the only person the £72k is a good thing for is PJ.
The club owe him £5m and lose £1m per year.
Therefore before we start even thinking about investing money in the playing squad we need to generate 60 times that amount.
Also PJ has every right to get his money back the club isn't a charity and he has supported it.
But from everyones perspective I think it's best we don't turn into amateur financiers and simply understand the big picture which is......relegation would be a financial disaster for a club already losing money, and therefore we must focus everything on retaining our status rather than worrying about how cup games can earn us a few bob. Relegation could spell bankrupcy and 10 point deductions in the 2nd division leading to non-league football. This is the reality.

No it's not reality. It's what you want to believe.

A cup run is not just about missing league games. For a start, it can provide the perfect break from the league, the chance to take our minds off it and focus on something else.

Secondly, we could pick up a win which would give us a huge confidence boost. This has already been shown by the win over Orient in the cup, which has been followed by wins over Southend and Brentford in the league, Aldershot in the cup, and the away draw at Huddersfield. You cannot tell me that the win at Orient wasn't the start of this - giving the team belief that they could win and some vital confidence. Something we've carried forward and picking up FURTHER league wins.

Thirdly, the financial side of it cannot be sniffed at. A higher gate, TV income, money for reaching the third round...plus we're in the fourth round draw. This is great for the club and just what's needed. The more money and publicity the better, and if we could beat Wolves, which I believe we can, then who knows what we could go on to do from there, in the league and cup.

Just stop your moaning. A win is a win, in any competition, and we need the money. A cup run will not be what sends Tranmere down, what will send Tranmere down, if we do go down, which I don't feel we will, has already happened: John Barnes.

Matthew I respect your right to an opinion however I disagree with every single one of the points you made without exception.

Facts are facts. Our form has been on the upturn (until yesterday) ever since the F.A. Cup started. FACT.

We will get some much needed money out of this run and indeed have done already. FACT.

Ahh I'd agreed with 75% of what you'd said in 3 other threads I've read Eric (which as we know is unusual for us!!) but I'm fully with Matt and Mike on this! We need the money regardless of what league we're in - "every little helps."

The average ticket price for the home sections works out at £18.27. The £72,000 we get for the coverage equates to 3,941 (or 3,942 if you round up) people at that average price.

Will the switch affect the gate by that much? I don't think so. The webcast money is additional bonus in my book.
